Sooooooo, I still had something to do on the Helling but now it is finished

The first keel part is also ready which was not very easy, so the keel-laying was on 05/30/14

It's different when you take finished components from a box or if you do everything yourself, it takes time :) :) :) but it´s funny

So, let's see what else I get done today, all components from the keel are already cut out and they still need to be sanded

Here are the pics :) :)

You're very welcome Hans Christian  :piratebo5:

Hello Dick,

Tom, are you making clamps for keel, sternpost and stempost?

what do you mean with "clamps". The german word for "clamps" is "Klammer" ????????

Maybe you mean wood ledges.....I glue wooden strips next to the keel and I cut for the stern and the bow parts small incisions into the helling so that nothing can slip away.

I hope this is that what you mean :) :)

Tom

Tom, I highly recommend that you construct frames to rigidly hold the stem and stern posts. also take care that the keel is held by wood planks which go almost up to the rabbet line of the keel. here are some photos of the ones I made

post-848-0-36423900-1401536877_thumb.jpg stempost clamp

post-848-0-43696200-1401537542_thumb.jpg sternpost clamp. Note the allen key in the top of the clamp to tighten the bolt thereby holding the sternpost down.

This will reduce the risk of twisting of the hull over time :) :)

Hi David,

I use normal wood glue from "Clou" and thank you very much :)

When all the parts are glued together and the glue is still wet, I loop everything so that all gaps be filled with wood glue and sanding dust. I've had good experiences to do it this way

1st thought and it might be wrong but I think that it is an end view of the part of the right showing size and shape. Note how high it is and the part to the right.

I think Tim nailed it.  Looks like the view of the keel, false keel, and sternpost as seen from the stern.

Tom, the drawing shows the sternpost knee and filler from aft. On top is a plan view. This shows the progressive narrowing of the knee as you go from fore to aft towards the rabbet in order to accommodate the run of planking. I hope this helps,.

My only problem with this print is actually doing the narrowing.  My sense of depth has never been good so on an average I take off a little too much and have to start over.  The person who can figure out how to do this easly and market it would probably be called a hero.

nil desperandum, Tom. No need to remake the knee.  Much as Karl has shown, after you have completed and fitted the transom timbers, fashion piece and last 2 frames, simply fit some timbers below the lowest transom beam and shape them in situ with your friendly Dremel drum sander. Dick

Another point. Please note there is a step at a slightly lower level for the step of the forward half of the full frame. It also has a hole for a dowel. You do not appear to have done this. :)
