  1. Welcome back! And what an incredibly clear and helpful tutorial thank you!!! And the results speak for themselves too. I can't wait to try this myself!
  2. Hi Dan, I just wanted to say "thank you" for going to all the trouble of rebuilding and re-posting this log, but also for building this ship so close to the plans to intentionally make such a great tutorial. Not only is your skill and knowledge so invaluable, but you have a wonderful ability of explaining things to complete novices without even slightly talking down to us. And all for strangers too Thank you again, and I can't wait to begin my Norfolk Sloop and follow your footsteps as closely as I can ! (I just hope the new version still comes with "Trim" haha)
  3. I really do like your crewman's point of view for the camera shots of your planking, and it shows just how good a job you have done!!!
  4. I am absolutely speechless! What an incredible artist and master builder you are Doris!!! Just wow!
  5. Hi Max! I loved your Half Moon before, but I have to say that even having just one mast on it has transformed it into something even better! It is amazing how different ships look when the masts go on.
  6. Hi Rod, Thank you for starting this build log, and the detail you have put into it already! As you know, I am very sure this will be my next ship for all the same reasons that you have started it and I would love to steal, umm, ahh, copy, hmm, learn as many things as I can from you You really is looking great already and I am particularly impressed with your deck! (Sorry I can't answer any of your questions though) Bindy edit: Actually, I see that Modellers Shipyard has recommended "The Mermaid" as my next build but I think I would be more inclined to build one where there is backup help with a log here from someone so helpful
  7. What a great build log so far! Sorry I can't help you with your question about how they should be stowed, but I can console you in not getting so much done over the weekend by reminding you it would have been VERY un-Australian not to drink the beer on Australia Day Weekend
  8. I have read your logs Vivian and I know you are still learning too (and still collecting tools!) but you really are such an inspiration! Your ship just looks so amazingly good and is already starting to come to life in my eyes
  9. What a great start and I have enjoyed every part of the log so far! As somebody said above it is so interesting to see problems you are coming across and how you are conquering them
  10. Well I am sure glad that you decided to wreck your model rather than continue with something you didn't enjoy and let the model wreck your love for the hobby! I can't wait to follow No. 2! p.s. If it is any consolation, this log and the sad ending gives us beginners enormous confidence in seeing that problems can happen to much much much more experienced modellers
  11. Your work is truly amazing! I also agree with a previous poster in that your camera work is great too, it allows us to clearly see all you have done. Your rope work is truly an inspiration!
  12. No, no, come back from work! I would like to read more! Not only does your model look amazing, but your descriptions, tutorials and photos are amongst the best I have seen so far. Thank you for sharing your skills and I can't wait to see more.
  13. Hi Vivian, Wow! I just had to tell you that I think your ship looks just great, but also thank you for all of the updates in your log as it really makes me feel like I have seen every step in your journey. It has also good to see how you faced the little problems too, and helps give me confidence for myself I am glad you decided to keep the hull in the wood colours rather than paint it all black as I think it just looks so good as it is.
  14. I don't know what I like more .. the fact that your wife calls your area your "Shipyard" haha or just how good your model is looking! I agree with Popeye in that the lacquer looks great. The mix of colours just looks amazing and I think you should be very proud of what you have achieved so far, particularly as your first wooden model!!
