  1. Definitely some beautiful detail in this ship! Were it not for the inevitable translation problems, I'd seriously consider getting this one too! Beautiful work Bob! Cheers
  2. Rich the first pic shows the Spanker and Gaff Topsail and the second shows the rest of the text you can't see in the first, and the second shows the Main and Mizzen Staysails and the Headsails. Hope it helps. Cheers
  3. I'll have to paint the hull at least down to the copper, but not the deck. A little poplar for the light frame-work and that'll just leave what to use for the railings, coamings, and other deck fittings.
  4. Oh yeah! That turned out beautiful. My Connie's a sizable ship, so I'll probably need 3 or 4 trays. Might use it for the deck too! Cheers
  5. That's interesting Dave. Been sniffing around for a source myself, so I'll be very curious to see how well bamboo is to work with for planking. Just happens to be a Wally right up the street from me.
  6. Glad you're back here Bob. I went over this amazing build, and your Connie build, a couple months ago and you're doing a beautiful job on her. Can't wait to see more progress pics. Cheers
  7. As always Ed, an absolute pleasure to watch! Beautiful work! Cheers
  8. Your planking process seems to be working nicely. Chuck's planking practicum follows the same way you've mentioned by dividing at the widest part, and tapering from there. Cheers
  9. It's not a problem for me Rich, but because of size and copyright issues I couldn't put the entire thing up. Those are some good looking sails.
  10. Glad to see the carving the doc did to your arm didn't have any--ahem---ill effects there Captain. That rudders looking sweet all painted and mounted too. Do what the saw-bones says and keep that arm put up for a while. Cheers
  11. I think he's talking about the counter that sets on top of the stern filler block. Shipgeezer: I'm no one to offer much advice, but you might want to slow down and study your manual, plans, and that first chapter of Bob's practicum for a while before doing much more carving. I got my Connie a year ago, and been studying that whole time and still have a LOT to learn before I'll feel comfortable starting. Also, Model Shipways has some fairly cheap books on modeling techniques. Studying the builds found right here on this site will also offer all kinds of helpful info and inspiration. The big thing I found so far is to treat each part and piece as a project unto itself, get it right, then move on. A build like this should take at least 3 years to complete, so take your time. Sorry for the rant, and please don't take it wrong. I'm looking forward to watching this one take shape. Cheers
  12. The jib sails are fastened to the stays with hanks or loops through the edge of the sail so they can slide up and down the stay. I can't explain it as well as a picture can.
  13. I should have added that MS also sells the Excel handles, other blades, and accessories as well. Just type Excel in the search-bar.
  14. Looking good Rich! Micro Mark has just what you're looking for. Long-reach rigging hemo-stats for clamping and the same style for cutting. Cheers
  15. Model Expo has packs of 100 Excel brand # 11 blades for about $27.00 US. They last 3 times longer than X-Acto, and are cheap enough to toss when they finally do get dull. I've used both and found the Excel to last way longer, and work great in the X-Acto handles.
  16. I use the Stanley Sweetheart 750 series 8 pc set. Very good and re-sharpenable. Reasonably priced at about $230 depending where you get them. Cheers
  17. The Egyptians had the same problem when Khufu virtually used up almost all of their resources when he had the Great Pyramid built. I love ancient history! Cheers
  18. By looking at all that ornamentation, I'll certainly give you all I can muster up Dave! I'm sure this will put your carving skills to the test. Cheers
  19. They look great John. Worth the time it takes I think. The over-all shots of her really show her off nicely! Cheers
  20. Sounds kind of complicated for squirrels to organize Matt. You may have to develop a squirrel hierarchy, putting one in charge of the rest, to keep order. Keeping yourself as the supreme commander. Hail Matt!
  21. The little details you're adding is making her stand out nicely Dennis! Makes me feel like a little kid that can't wait for the end result. Are we there yet? Cheers
