You're making great progress on her Dave. She looks great! A question about the bondo instead of regular wood filler. Isn't the Bondo harder to sand than the wood around it, and how do you get around this problem? Did a lot of body-repair work during the off-seasons, hence the question. Cheers

Amazing what you're able to do on such a small scale Buck! If I didn't know better, I'd say you were doing these things under a microscope. Very nice!

I've been considering Alexy's serving machine myself. Just got Jim's Ropewalk yesterday and have been studying the learning curve for that. Seems pretty straight forward.

I noticed the worming and was wondering if you used a serving machine to assist. I'll be doing the same when I do my shrouds to avoid the lumpy look of regular served lines.

Looks like they have their work cut out for them. Just a little premature to be fighting over who's going to be captain, before it's even built. Sounds like nut abuse to me Matt. Tell them if they don't get back to work, you'll start doing drug/nut testing in the work-place.

Love that stern shot. The square-tuck and hull side planking blend in beautiful with the stern-post.

You have to cherish those quiet moments when they come around Nenad. Sometimes, all it takes is a little peace and quiet, to give you a brand new perspective on things. Cheers- 4,152 replies

Interesting Tadeusz! Thanks for posting this.

After going back into your log Danny, P.100 +, I was admiring your shrouds and I have to ask if you wormed the lines before serving, to smooth out the wavy look of rope when served, or does the difference lie between using 3 or 4 strands around a core when making the shroud? I'm planning on learning how eventually myself, and it seems like a necessary skill.

She looks good setting there Rich! However, after seeing the first pic, I hope the Admiral isn't waiting around with a bottle in her hand just waiting to club it when it's done. Cheers

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
