Nice work dominic coming along nicely. On my billings victory i glued spare pieces of 3mm by 2mm underneath as deck beams to stiffen them. Keith

Change of plan! Removed the brass pins from the planking then gave it a course sanding then installed first bulwark plank in place before installing the waterways. pins removed and rough sanded. bulwark plank installed- used clamps as opposed to nails on head timbers to avoid snapping them. Keith

excellent work. I have to agree about manufacturers and their instructions. aglad i didn't start billings victory without lots of prior experience! also they "cut corners" with certian features and dumb down others. Keith

I recently remasted a very old mantua victory for the lad in the local modelshop and the copper plates were black in places! so deffo worth it. Keith p.s. sure your wife would be as eager as mine to clean the model !!!!!!!!

Nice work there.strongly recommend laquering the copper though- i did with my cutty sark and the copper still looks ok 18 years later. (see my pic on new to MSW post) Keith

Looking good- wierd how they used extended ply formers from the frames for the bulwarks on Nina and not their Santa Maria kit. Keith

A few people have asked me to start a build log for my billings victory so here goes! Decided to add part of the middle gun deck for at least one of the sets of ladders from the main deck- will cover the other hatchway with a grating- didn't want to weaken the framework in this area to avoid "hogging". work so far- building up courage to start the planking next! Keith

Excellent work there and well done. I recently re-masted and rigged an old mantua 1/96th victory for the local model shop owner and fully understand the fun with the rigging! Keith

ty shihawk- i have always had a couple of projects on the go at once as well as building military vehicles and railway modelling- stops things getting stale! planking of hull in place- next the waterways then the bulwark planking- will need to make frames for the overhang on the stern as i am not using the "double skin" method. Keith

frames sanded and planking commenced- note to new starters, i am not following the instructions here! keith

i used home made stud link chain using a set of needle nose pliers- still hurts thinking about it- but is over scale- to be honest though doesn't really stand out and figures out at about the same links per inch as yours. by the time the ships bell, jib sails sheets, forestays and heads are put in the windlass isnt really noticable as they all distract from it! Keith

When i come to do the stern windows will use darker stain and cut the strips narrower- used the cabin windows as a test bench as they wont be as noticable. Keith PS dont know why its upside down !!!!!

looking good- just bstarted sanding the frames to shape on mine. I used self adhesive strips of paper from franking labels and stained them for the windows- can post a pic on here if you like? Keith

Decided to fix the deck beams in place before sanding. Hopefully have nice weather this weekend so i can sand the frames to shape outside (don,t have an extraction system in my workshop). One thing i was dissapointed with was the amount of timber to remove from the deck edges and the amount of space around the frames when the deck was fastened in place- being laser-cut i thought they would have got it a bit "tighter" Keith

Ahhh the secret of stopping paint developing a skin- store the tins upside down and it seals the top and stops air seeping in- some tins of paint are nearly 15 years old and still usable! Keith

deck planking underway. have laid a 6" rule on deck to give some idea of size.

box of goodies! note i have already removed the main deck and frames. frames and deck assembeled. Next decision after planking is whether to install the deck beams before sanding the frames to shape to offer some support to the bulwark timbers as they are rather flimsy- especially the poop deck ones (instructions suggest sanding frames first). Keith

ouch bob- reminds me of when i completed the wheelhouse on my scratchbuilt model of "clearway" only to find the plans didn't follow the same dimensions as the real thing as to height! It just didn't look right compared to photos so i had to scrap several weeks work and start again- fun isn't it aaaargh. Keith

a bit of stain and varnish will disguise that nicely- been there myself! wish i had done the bulwarks the same as you instead of just using the billings method. On the subject of fittings, yeah the fittings came as a seperate entity which you had to buy seperate from the actual kit itself hence why there was none in the box. As mentioned though the billings winches were very basic and innacurate hence the replacement ones i got in. Keith P.S. hope you didn't mind me posting the pic on your log of my cutty.
