  1. Thanks Keith. Well enjoying the run down to San Diego and the three hour tour of the Surprise. Have the movie and now been on the ship its self,' boy don't it seem different'. Dwarfed by the carrier next door. Just shows the change in naval times. Well its back to LA and hate the drive into the city, but so different to our roads, with traffic running both sides at 70 mph, think I will go back to the sailing, much more relaxing. Cannot wait to get back to Victory again. foxy
  2. Yep, boarding ropes are common on first rate ships. But were unshipped at sea ie, seized . So you have an option on this. foxy
  3. Hi AvesP. Yep can help and say what I am using, but there are other products you can also use. The deadeyes I am using will be the one's that come with the Heller Ship( have not got there yet) that's the plan for that part of the work, I am using Dafie's Idea's for this. Having got his etch parts, do you also have his download of some help with the use of these etchings.1 to 10 I believe. Rope is another thing that you can use from the kit, but am using some from Syren and Bluejacket and Cornwall scale models. On the ropes for the cannons I am using the white rope that comes with the kit for the lower, middle decks as you see in the pictures. For the block/ tackle I am using Syren 2mm single and double blocks, for the rope I am using cotton. but will also be using Syren/Bluejacket rope as ness. Having not got to that stage yet for the shrouds, it will be much clearer once I am doing this part of the build. There are many idea's about what to use. In the meantime I am on vacation, so will not be able to explain till I get home in a month and a half's time. Thanks for your Interest, believe me you have given me some nice idea's to put my build across. Foxy
  4. Lovely work there on this iconic ship. As for jumping over to other builds, it doe's give you more interest and motivation, but not to many projects I find other wise you lose the plot fast. Great research going on and build here. As Keith on his tracks, there metal with pins to make them move if ness, there's so much out there now that's usefull for all sorts of modelling. Frank
  5. That's a great set of boats you have there Grant . Like the very nice detail. Frank
  6. Great work Keith shipmate. That's really coming on and the metal items look far better. I would have thought the metal would be nearer the mark for scale and more interesting too. Cheers Frank.
  7. Hope you get sorted soon Mike. Know the feeling on getting replacements, but never had the trouble your having. Good luck shipmate Frank
  8. How do you fix PE Bill. CA or PVA. What ever looks good . Your right John on a similar kit, but this is scratch built. Some say the white glue is better but not as strong as CA, but gives more to accidents . Great work. Frank
  9. That's a very nice start Chris. I to have this ship to do one day, and see that you and Evan are now building this iconic ship, all though Capt Aubrey might not agree with you, seeing how he got captured by the very same ship in the Patrick O'Brian books. Following both builds with great Interest, come my time to have a go at this ship. foxy
  10. Glad to see your other half has a sense of humour Rich. I can see which is better your panels V copper strip, much nicer the panelling you have. foxy
  11. Well in two weeks time I am off for a vac as you Americans call it. But in the meantime I have started on some of the figures for this and another ship. There is a very limited amount of postures in the figures for naval ships in this scale. So it means a few(many) amputations. Here are just a few, with an American officer(the one I use in many pictures so far), Capt Hardy(still needs his hat sorting. Seven marines, one drummer and a marine officer plus many more alterations. What you see is only a fraction of what's needed for this and another ship. I guess by the American officer is a clue. Back soon, foxy
  12. Some use copper strips and then cut later for size. I use them for lighting and model railways, but good so I am told for this type of work, you can lay a full length, then cut to size. This is if you do not want the bolts holding the copper. Just a thought!!!! foxy
  13. Thanks Keith mate. Will be warmer and good to meet friends. Plus can pick up some Syren products while I am there. Had them sent to one of my relations, so as to save money. All helps. These are some that I already have for the block/tackle for the upper/quarter decks, still another 29 to make, they work too. foxy
  14. Nice work jaydee37 . I suggest that object is in fact part of the spru come loose. But keep it just in case , 'I do '. foxy
  15. Thanks Daniel shipmate. Ok unshipped the guns from this deck(middle) added wood dowls to the base from Keiths suggestion for secure fitting. Drilled and glued inplace. Next its a test fit of the upper deck, all seems well. still some work on the stern, but want to finish up to the quarterdeck before finishing the outer hull properly. Atmospheric view. Having a break for my trip to the US, so more soon folks. foxy
  16. Don't know about insane, but that sofar looks good to relax in. . I think all modelling can drive you nuts sometimes, but its good to escape. foxy
  17. Well had a bit of time on my hands!!! Did spike the guns down , fixed down with thin wood Dowls. Plus laid the table for sups. Bell on mid deck also added. Some tidying up to do. foxy
  18. Sounds about right Keith. It is a good medium to use, especially in this scale. Great build there Bob matey foxy
  19. Well now that seems to be the ticket, been to a show,(our show) not had time to get to grips with this problem. But thanks to me old mucker, its on the cards to do next. foxy
  20. That's a brilliant Idea Keith, why did I not think of that Maybe that's why I am here to get Idea's. Thanks, will unship the guns and do that. foxy
  21. Hi Keith shipmate. Yep she is coming along. The table and chairs up and in use. The round one is for ether the Captains or Admirals quarters, maybe have to make two. Fixing cannons and not knocking them off the decks I see is a problem, well with the ropes plus sanding off the base of the truck wheels might help with fixing to the decks. Brass added to give better strength on the bowsprit. For the rope/blocks later. With wood and brass and lots of advice, this should work well. foxy
  22. Thanks Keith and Jan. Well not quite yet Jan. Lots to do yet. Swab the deck , plenty for the carpenter to be getting on with. The mast I test fit all the time, to make sure all is ship shape as I go along. Using shot for fishing for the shot garlands, sliced in half. Water buckets. Table and chairs for the officers quarters. Foxy
  23. Just so Daniel, its Bockfurst, not Brockfurst, just looked at the label proper like. Great collection my friend but were's the knife and fork . I also did not realise your build was here. Will suspend mine. foxy
