  1. Nice bit of research on the railings Ian and coming to a suitable solution. Great explanation on the machining and making a rose bit. You said mild steel, no need to harden it? Cheers,
  2. Thanks for the water info Igor, I kinda figured so because of the way it looks. Model looks fantastic in the bottle my friend and hope you can fix the rigging without too much trouble. Cheers,
  3. Marvelous work Patrick. Love that stateroom and TV, without the remote But I'm sure it's on order. Cheers,
  4. Wow, that's small! Nice work Nenad, I can hardly wait till it's all finished and on the ship. Cheers,
  5. So sorry hearing about your current physical condition and wish yo all the best in your healing process. Fortunately you have good medical doctors in Germany who can fix you up. Get well soon, the ship will wait patiently for you, the shipwright, to return dockside. Cheers,
  6. Thank you Greg and Popeye Dennis for your kind words. And thanks to all who clicked on the like button. Not much done on the Surabaya I'm afraid. Am still very busy with yard work. A few more days and then I can relax a little in the shipyard. I am doing a few things in between on my other project though. A few minutes here and there. There is still a lot of trying a few things to see if they work well enough to get started on the real thing. As far as the Surabaya is concerned, it's a toss-up among several jobs. Right now am not sure whether to start carving the bow lion, the railing carvings, the counter carvings or getting the mizzenmast ready for the shrouds. I'm not at a loss of things to do. Cheers,
  7. Fantastic looking model Igor and looking very handsome inside the bottle. What did you use for the water? Cheers,
  8. WOW, what and incredible great job you are doing in the rigging Kevin. Yup, putting the stays on at this stage of the rigging surely is a tad more difficult. I'll be working from the mizzen mast on forward - - - whenever i get so far. Cheers,
  9. Very bold move Sjors. But like everybody has already said, you are the one who has to be happy with your build. Cheers,
  10. Majellan is looking great Patrick and thanks for showing the entire fleet. Fantastic collection. Cheers,
  11. Ah yes, an unusual build of a not well known vessel. Looks like a very interesting build Maury. Count me in too. Cheers,
  12. Thanks fellows for the encouragements and the laughs Hey George, I know my limits and i have a ;awn chair nearby with fresh water, in the shade. No problem with my ooooold bod Yeah Carl, that Dutch language is um - - - a little cornfusing at times - - when compared with other languages. Talking about double Dutch, we have a booklet about that, hilarious. The problem for non Dutch speakers it makes absolutely no sense. Who you calling old Dave? My father used to say, the devil is old and his mother is even older. Next month the 15th will be 82, that's all I have too may things to do yet and need an extra lifetime for all them things Okay fellers, I'll take it easy on my delicate bod, not to worry but thanks for your concern. Cheers,
  13. Thank both of you, Pat and Patrick, for visiting my humble shipyard and your very kind swords. Yes, it was my first attempt building a ship model since the early 1950's when in trade school in the Netherlands. Just to get back into it again to gain some experience. A shame that my build log disappeared with the crash of MSW version 1.0 Cheers,
  14. Thanks Mark and Bob for those encouraging words. That'll make life a little easier for me. Cheers,
  15. Thanks for the info Paul, that explains the color. Nice work on the pump wells, at least that's what I think they are. Cheers,
  16. Good to see you back Nenad and happy to hear of the great support of your children. Yes, stress is not good for the heath of our bodies and mind, exercise is one way to relieve most of it and then other activities to keep the mind focused on job and hobby. Keep well my friend and keep strong. Cheers,
  17. Nice bit of research on the paint color Cees. A bummer it's not available on the market but I'm sure you'll get the mix just right. Make copious notes on all your mix badges so you can duplicate it in larger quantities. The props look magnificent! I'm amazed at what can be done with this styrene stuff. May be someday I have to try it. Cheers,
  18. My goodness Pete, you crank these Volo boats out like nobodies business. Your original plan of using balsa wood for then planking was that done for weight considerations? Basswood seems to be a better choice though, also light and a stronger. Your little jewel is really looking splendid, can't wait seeing her on the water beating all competition. Cheers,
  19. Thank to everyone visiting and liking my endeavors, special thanks to all who added a comment, it's all very much appreciated. @ Dave: Thank you and you made me blush The pleasure was all mine - meeting you. The dialog? Well, if I can encourage others in trying their hand at doing things they have never done before then they'll make my day. As you and Remco know from personal experience - I am a gabber @ Remco: Thanks buddy, it works for me The whole model is a figment of my imagination and these knechten may not be the way as used in them there olden days, but they should have @ Patrick: Thank you and Gwen likes them too A big plus. @ Carl: Thank you. Funny thing is that "knecht" doesn't even translate into "knight." According to Gwen's very old Dutch - English High School dictionary a knecht is a servant or indentured, slave, or man in bondage. Sorry for the added info but it's directed to the non Dutch speakers - a little trivia never hurts, right? Yes, the traditional checkerboard pattern on these hats would test my abilities to the max. Don't think that it didn't cross my mind though @ Pete: Thank you my friend. Didn't do diddly squat on the Surabaya today. Had to do yard work. Bought 200 + square feet of St. Augustine sod for the front yard and several patches for the back yard. I did manage to make some changes to my other project, improved it a little, I think. Tomorrow is more yard work, removing weeds where the sod pieces are to go, add some edging material to keep that pesky ground cover from getting into the grass and then laying the sod. This'll be a multi day project and could use some help Cheers,
