  1. Lovely job on the Q' Deck bulkhead Chuck. I spent quite a number of hours and bad language making mine for my POB Speedwell. I built mine in 3 separate sections on a piece of 1/64th ply, looks pretty good but not in your league unfortunately. Several dozen separate items were needed to accomplish this. Dave
  2. HI brunnels, I have a pack of identical looking blades which I inherited about 20 years ago. They are called Balsa hobel klingen (plane blades) manufactured by a German firm called Martor in Solingen. I've only ever used them for scraping decks etc, they're good steel and hold an edge. I suspect your blades are likely a product of the PRC. Dave
  3. Very nice Job on the square tuck fashion pieces Mike, not the easiest items to make. I wasn't happy with my first (stbd) one, binned it and had no problem with them after,a lesson learned I'll bet yours are just as good as the computer generated laser cut versions with the added satisfaction that you made them yourself. Dave
  4. Hi, There is nothing wrong with the Proxxon FET saw whatsoever. I have had one for several years which does excellent work with no problems,I really like the fact you can tilt the blade for angled cuts. Something which the Byrnes saw cannot do as far as I´m aware. I can´t speak for Micro Mark, however I´ve heard their saw may be a Chinese made copy of the Proxxon saw. I´m fairly certain´that Mr Byrnes business will be open again soon. Patience is a virtue Dave
  5. Dick, you missed out what I wrote,I was replying to Ferrus Manus's comment there. Sorry I didn't mention your build. As you say there is nothing new under the sun. Dave
  6. It was done by the Dutch on a regular basis. There was a build by a Belgian (?) member doing it this way on MSW 1 back in the day.. There is also currently a build doing this in the Ships of Scale forum successfully it would appear. Dave
  7. Hi Turil, Cornwall model boats sell Model Shipways kits. They appear to have a good selection on their website, and also have a very large selection of Ship/Boat modelling items and tools . I have been buying items from them for years, they have excellent and fast service. My last order took only 5 days from ordering to arriving in my Briefkasten in Switzerland. Postal cost is about 20% of what the American post charges. Please dont waste your money on items like you have underlined. Welcome on board to MSW. Dave
  8. Thanks Wayne,no need to be sorry and thanks for your answer. I get this all the time with foreign press articles,I just ignore and move on. Dave
  9. Could have been an interesting read but I only got a message telling me to turn off my ad blocker if I wished to read the article. Not going to happen. Dave
  10. Give it a rest,Siggi knows what he is doing by following the original draft of HMS Tiger. He doesn't need your sniping about trivia. Dave
  11. Thank you for the explanation Maurice,a kit modification, makes sense I guess. Epoxy will be a must then when fitting guns through the ports. The words "tweak matters"intrigue me. I'm fitting Speedwells' guns just now,5 port guns fitted and pinned to deck, stbd 5 in progress. No guns being fitted in ports #3. Twice I've knocked off the break (sp) pumps trying to fit guns there, end of story empty ports. Rgds, Dave
  12. Hi Maurice, looking very good indeed. A question if I may, what is the purpose of the wedge shaped item behind the trunnions ? I have never seen anything like that before in any pix or drawings. A cap square it is not. Dave
  13. Hi Nix, I can confirm what Allan says. However although it's of little or any value it's a nice example and certainly worth keeping. Dave
  14. Enjoy your Rhine cruise,I like your photo on board ship. I assume that was taken on Lake Lucerne. Been there a few times, beautiful area. Dave
  15. Hi Maurice, A delight to see this which is so much better looking and far more authentic than 4 rows of straight planks. Dave
  16. Would likely have been an interesting read. However a message appeared telling me to remove my adblocker if I wanted to read the article. Not going to happen just to read an article in an obscure newspaper I've never heard of. Dave
  17. When Constitution reaches the same age as Victory I doubt if she will still have 12% of her original Timber Henry. Just saying Dave
  18. Hi Dave, There is a company called Metal Clay Ltd in Wareham who sell some miniature carving tools, I bought a set of 1.5mm Dockyard Tools from them last year, good quality mini carvers. Google them,I'm sure you may find what you need, they are also a bit cheaper than Flexcut. Both of which are American imports. Happy hunting. Dave
  19. Great news about the sweep port lid hinges. Speedwell at 1:48th has sweep ports 3/16"x 1/8th". I'll be keeping a weather eye open for when the size I need is available. Dave
  20. Hi Kevin, Your recovery paint job looks tip-top. Such a shame you had to do that on Boxwood. I would have removed the damaged planks and redone that area. I had a problem when planking the upper hull on my Speedwell build. I was in the middle of the 6th row of the Stbd strakes when I realised all was not well,a couple of wrong measurements😢. Hey Ho,I ripped the Boxwood (Buxus Sempevirens) off both sides plus I damaged the Stbd upper wale so that was ripped off too. **** happens,a months work in the bin. Lesson learned, pay more attention. Dave
  21. Lovely result with your hand carving Kortes. More satisfying for you than having a computer driven machine making them for you then just glueing the bits on I wish I had your skill,I am struggling a bit attempting to do the carvings on my Speedwell build. Dave
  22. Steven,Great Harry looks absolutely tip-top. You must have the patience of a saint to have accomplished this. Respect Dave
  23. Hi Chuck, Your square tuck looks very good,I made mine the hard way, only had to do one of the not so easy outer parts twice. I didn't realise that the model had two coloured areas on the outer hull.thought the upper was just shadow, need to get new specs methinks. I'll have a go at doing the red area, hopefully I don't make a mess of it. Dave
