Long time coming I know, but finally a bit of an update! Still finishing off the upper rails, but over the Christmas period I got myself some more willing passengers! Unfortunately these figures only come in packs of 6 and all packs contain the same figurines. So, as you can see from earlier posts I already have a few glued into position on the lower deck horse bay area. So what I will do now is paint the ladies dresses different colors (have already made a bit of a start on this), and I figure if I position them in different parts of the boat they will all look like different people. Some of the worker type people, I intend to cut and manipulate arms etc. and repaint to get a different looking figure. Anyway, here's some pics. Oh, and they are all just lined up here. No-one glued into position as I cant see any ending up here. Just a mass gathering to show the people. Cheers Chris

A lot of kits of such ships as the Golden Hind, Revenge, etc. have similar hull decorations. They tend to use thin printed card, which doesn't look 100% great, but its not too bad either. So perhaps you could print your own and see how that goes? Cheers Chris

PVC pipe is great for our hobby. I use a length about 1200mm long capped at one end with plumbers resin and glue. I fill it with water and soak planks prior to bending. The uncapped end has another non glued cap on it to stop the planks popping out before they are soaked. I have used this for about 12 years and it has never leaked. Cheers Chris

I had a fight with a carving knife and a leg of lamb! Nearly cut my thumb off! Its why I haven't updated for a while. Should be good to go again pretty soon though. You keep up the good work. Cheers Chris

Really nice update Pop. Hoping to get back to mine again soon once my hand has healed. With the door knobs, I find simple things like dressmakers pins are more to scale, or even old, bent used planking nails. That's what I used for my paddle wheel fake nails on my build. Cheers Chris

Looks really great! Congratulations on your work! Couple of questions if I may? 1. What glue do you use to attach the PE parts? 2. How do you actually cut out, pick up, and attach the PE parts? 3. Would/could/can you do an instructional short video or more detailed photo explanation pertaining to points 1 and 2? Cheers Chris

Hey thanks David. Yes that is exactly what I wanted to know. Does it say anything in the instructions about gluing on and then later removing those paper guides? This is a quite expensive model that probably is bought by mainly experienced builders like yourself who wouldn't get caught out at this stage, but if a novice did buy it and glue the paper on too well it could turn nasty. I reckon, just like the dodgy false bulkheads you had to fix, this is another stage Amati needs to address. Cheers Chris

I buy all my kits from Cornwall. I got my Sergal Mississippi Riverboat from them. Here in Australia that kit would have cost me about $1200 AUD when I bought it in mid 2017. I got it from CMB, delivered in 4 days to my door, for a little under $700 AUD. Same with my latest kit from there, Model Shipways Chaperon. Nearly half price. Every kit I have got from them comes extremely well packaged and arrives in under a week from half way around the world. In all honesty, I would probably never buy a kit from any where else. 100% recommend them! Cheers Chris

From what I have seen on other builds of this vessel those parts shouldn't be too hard to fabricate from wood. Specially for a man of your talents! Cheers Chris
