Apparently yes, but they do not tell the focal distance to work with. For this reason, I would greatly hesitate. As a comparison, I also wear glasses, When I buy 1 pair, the first option is always glass, but I always choose plastic, for the weight. For the optic qualities, it is exactly the same. This forum has been open for around 10 years. This same question is asked about a couple time every year. So this question was answered many times before. There are no sections in the modeling tools and for this reason we can ask 100 time the same question and there will always be someone new to answer. Optivisors has been on the market for many years. The first pair I bought was probably 30 years ago. This product was first sold for jewelers and their lenses are made of plastic or glass . This product always made concensus among its users. There is also many other options on the market: from $2 to over $2000. I always like to try tools, and I tried some magnifying glasses. At least , 10 years ago, I saw in in jewelry supply store 1 pair as above at $15. I tried it, By comparison with others, distortion factor is too high: so this pair ended in the garbage. Quality always had a price, and I am sorry, a $ 2 magnification lens which is probably made with no quality control, will never be a wise choice. It is better to wait and save $100 than throwing $20 in the garbage. Here is an examples of other options, divided in 3 categories: Optivisor, clip-on and dental or surgical binoculars. Each one have different options. The one you choose will always a matter of preferences, magnification factor and focal distance.

Help with Proxxon MF70
Gaetan Bordeleau replied to Bluto 1790's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I had this experience with Ebay: I wanted to buy a camera on Ebay, the vendor wanted a money transfer only. If I would have transfer the money, there would have been no way for Ebay or Paypal to help me if the vendor did not send the camera. In fact they were thieves and they had absolutely no intention to send the item. That is why Ebay does not recommend this method and this is why I did not send a money transfer. -
It is exactly the same principle for for a camera lens. I can buy a plastic lens for $100 and a glass lens for $2000. Plastic or glass is not important but quality optics have a price, sharpness of what you will see will be the same. A $2 magnifying glass will not be harmful if you wear it for few seconds but if you wear it hours, for carving by example, well, may be it will be just the contrary!

Proxxon jigsaw or a scroll saw
Gaetan Bordeleau replied to Edwardkenway's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Is it possible to make scratch building with few hand tools, yes and we say few peoples doing it in this forum. The difference with more tools and power tools, is that you will go faster. Scratch building is not about extreme precision, because wood is not about extreme precision. With wood, you can go to .001'', with metal you can add few 0. There are many variations you can buy for a tool. By example, you can buy an electric micromotor for less than $100 or you can buy another one for $1000. Both will do the job and the second one will just have more options like torque and higher RPM. There are many reasons to do a scratch built model ship, one of the reasons is that there is a wider choice to choose a model that you like. -
variable height desks

Oil cylinder is not the best road, electric one are far more convenient and easier to use. Electric table are becoming very easy to buy for around $200. I would buy this tool before many, many other ones. This is the kind of tool that you do not see the use unless you try it. It is exactly like trying polaroid glasses; when you try it, you would not come back to a standard sun glasses. -
HI Empathry, Mainly, I use 2 cameras; 1 for inside details and 1 for outside. https://www.yitechnology.com/yi-4k-action-camera a very small camera, 4k inside the model, automatic camera with few adjustments. For outside, Canon 5D mark IV with various lens and sometime with different flash. It depends, there are other considerations like ISO. There is not only 1 possibility, but hundreds. Most importantly, if I want a daylight exposition, to get the good colors, I need to add more light, especially for dark spaces. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/LED-Light-Sources/ci/12248 because these little camera do not have a flash. LED light, with continuous lighting is the kind of lighting used for video.

Proxxon jigsaw or a scroll saw
Gaetan Bordeleau replied to Edwardkenway's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
A good strategy would have been to wait and save. The road you took in a hurry will be more expensive: not only you bought a jigsaw, but you will probably buy a scroll saw in a near future. -
Thank you Sea Hoss, How can we get cannonballs out of have 3 very deep cabinets? First, we need to enter the cabinet by some kind of entrance. Secondly, we need to go down to the bottom of this deep hole with the help of some kind of ladder. Son 3 openings have been done and ladder rungs have been added in each of the 3 holes.

variable height desks
Gaetan Bordeleau replied to bigcreekdad's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
100% agree... adjusting the height table to your work is easier than adjusting you to the work. Having the proper height to work means it is easier to work and it also means that you can get a higher quality work. -
I just finish replacing a part of the deck...at home , not on the 74. To synchronize 3 Profoto and 3 Canon flashs together, I got a module called Youngnuo YN622C. Here is a picture to verify that everthing works together and trying to light every part of the model at the same level. Even if it is artificial light, color are very close to what we see. We can clearly see 2 tone of cherry wood; natural and 1 coat of tung oil.

We have to be careful with drawings, especially with some curved parts which are sometimes exaggerated like the rear balcony, and maybe? other parts on the side view.
