I added the first two strakes below the wales. This was to get the drop plank out of the way. The drop plank was shaped from a piece of card stock first just to get the hang of it. After I was satisfied that it fit OK I cut the real ones from wide stock the same thickness as the planking. They were pre shaped as you can see. You can also see my pencil on the edge to simulate the tarred seams. Now I will line off the remainder of the hull into two belts and finish the planking. I also painted the first of many layers of red paint on the counter at the stern.

Thanks..... That is still the plan. As soon as I complete the exterior planking with the square tuck and write the first few chapters of the monograph (which will be posted on my site as a free download) the plans will be released.

Looks great....Before you add the lintels...make sure you fill any cracks between the sills and the bulkheads. Its easier to do that now. Sand them smooth as if preparing them for paint now. the lintels will make it harder as your space is limited even with a good sanding stick. With the lintels...its not as crucial to fill the gaps so precisely as it will be on the underside and not seen. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt give it a shot.

I have seen better although they are slightly larger....1:24 scale. But they are crazy expensive and I dont know what machine he uses

No its correct....there was never a one size fits all for these things. Some had alternating holes and others had them as I have designed it. And as Jan points out, there is the example above from the NMM. I have also seen other contemporary models that show them like this too.
There was always some variation on the same. The good news is...should you decide to build her, you could absolutely change it to what you believe is correct. That is why it wont be a kit but released as a scratch project.
I am 100% confident that the Windlass is correctly designed and portrayed. Not that there arent other configurations that would work as well.

Druxey...Like you, I thought that was true. Holes on every other face of the windlass. However, I kept seeing more and more of these that showed them on all sides. I may switch it later...but I am torn. Do you have have any info on these that would clarify. Other than contemporary models....few even show the holes at all, I could only find secondary sources. For example, The AOS for the Cutter Alert has an almost identical windlass with holes on all eight faces of the windless. Go figure. Its easy enough to change, just need to find something definitive. Any help would be appreciated.
You can see that Roger Cole also added the holes on every face of his windlass on his model of Alert below.
