After the little mare nostrum build I did I have become a big fan of bare wood models instead of painting just use hardwood and softwood mixtures I think some of the artesania Latina kits lend well to this and I'm considering a Scottish maid or independence

Hello and welcome to my log of the HMS Victory by Panart this is not a rolling log as I built the ship before discovering MSW this was my first model ship I completed it in around eleven months ,knowing what I know now about ship building I would have spent more time and added much more detail however I am happy with the results and would like to share the images with you all as from time to time in my other logs you may hear me refear to the victory thankyou for viewing and please enjoy the following steve

Hello all I am back in business on the bounty build after my short break building another ship I don't think I will attempt a side build again as I think it give me an easy option out of the bounty when things got challenging. Even before I started the bounty I could not get my head round how billings intended the bulwarks to be fitted but after the short break have just stormed in and started building and im happy with how that step has went I think sometimes you just need to build if its wrong there is nothing that cant be ripped off and re done. Gemmajf if you are reading I have ordered the caldercraft figurehead and I ordered amati stern cabin windows portside and starboard I should hopefully get them in the morning I will post some pics of them in comparision to the kit provided ones ,I have no idea what size they are or scale I believe the caldercraft to be from 1/60 the amati pieces im not sure

progress so far on the Mare Nostrum the last part of the build I have found frustrating with the trawl doors the instuctions call for 4 brass pins to be shaped and fitted tied together with a silver wire the first door I did I was pleased with however trying to recreate this with the second has so far took ten attempts and to date im not happy so will carry on trying to replicate the first. and for the border of the doors they call for a 2mm brass wire to be fitted I have tried this but not happy with the result I ordered some 0.5 mm brass plate in the hope I could rip 2mm strips to use as the surround however all this has resulted in is I now need to order a new blade for my proxxon saw I remade the doors to the size of original includeing 2mm brass wire so if I cant figure out how to make 2mm x0.5 surround I may just use the doors without brass surround

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
