  1. Veszett, not if you're facing south. I think most models are displayed from the starboard side because most reading/writing is left to right. It would be interesting to see if that holds true for models built by those in Middle Eastern countries where reading/writing is right to left.
  2. Francis, welcome to MSW.
  3. Halvor, welcome to MSW. Good luck with your first build.
  4. Steven, she's really looking nice. The shields turned out great. Your childhood memories have a bright future.
  5. Joseph, welcome to MSW. Enjoy this new phase of modeling and please take advantage of looking through the build logs of others. You'll not only find inspiration but also answers to questions you have during your builds.
  6. Photos 10 and 11 are indeed stunning and very believable. Keith, brilliantly executed!
  7. Siggi, beautifully carved. These are more open and airy compared to the first ones. The first scrolls were 7.5 and 8 mm, these two are 12 mm. Are they for the same location port side?
  8. Bitao, thank you. She's light for her looks, all the timbering makes her look heavier. Forgive me for asking if the answer has already been discussed earlier in your build log......what are your plans regarding planking?
  9. Siggi, the painter seems to be much more careful with the yellow paint than the red paint, there's not a speck of yellow on his smock. He's doing a fine job, maybe you should consider raising his wages?
  10. This photo shows several areas where I've used masking tape. Banding for the mast and stack, for the gun tracks and for the coal scuttles on each side of the companionway.
  11. Phil, I first dab a little CA on the cut end of the tape then I paint with acrylic paint and once the paint dries the banding gets ploy coated. I'm pretty sure my banding is going to out live the rigging by decades. In time, everything fails.
  12. Eberhard, masking tape is thin paper, not plastic. I agree with the rubber assessment.
  13. Eberhard, as I said above I use masking tape but not all masking tape is created equal. I bought a roll of Frog Tape masking tape the other day and it's worthless, it won't even stick to itself. The best masking tape I've found is 3M Scotch masking tape.
  14. A picture's worth a thousand words. Hope this helps, it's sure helped me.
  15. Derek, the Mantua sectional model looks great. Quit beating yourself up and join in.
  16. Henry, good to hear. They've always (by they I mean Sarah) been nice to me and have always been helpful. Hopefully everything arrives as you expect. Did you order cannon barrels?
  17. Gus, you might wrap the tips with masking tape to protect them? You're fast out of the gate, a big thumbs up!
  18. Bob, sometimes instant is expedient. Poly works for me but it's sure not for everybody. And price, poly is the least of my expenses in this hobby. Bob, do you have a build log? I've looked for one and couldn't find one. I'd like to see your work.........Keith
  19. PRS, I'm a poly man myself but poly isn't accessible to everyone. The UK comes to mind and there maybe other parts of the world as well? From what I understand folks in the UK have to use varnish unless they're willing to pay exorbitant shipping charges for poly. I only say this not knowing where Manic lives.
  20. And hopefully never too old to learn something new.
  21. Derek, welcome to MSW. I would like to see you start a build log, please consider it......Keith
  22. Gus, it's good to see your build log up and running. I'll be following along to share in your adventure. Nice looking work space and it's good to see future projects on the shelf. The very best to you as you start your new project..........Keith
