    I paint over polyurethane with acrylic paint and recoat with poly without issue.

    I use masking tape. I lay out a strip (approximately four inches) of one inch wide masking tape on to a piece of wood, paint it whatever color I want and once dry, I cut it to the required width. The tape can be made to stand proud as required by a second or third winding. I poly coat everything so this helps bind the edges of the tape to the work. I used masking tape to also make the gun tracks. I wasn't happy with the bow gun tracks and removed the tape to redo the tracks. I had a devil of a time getting the tape off, it holds really well. I know this isn't traditional but golly it saves a lot of time and effort. If you're a metalsmith you scoff and rightly so, unfortunately I'm not a metalsmith.

    Henry, the pictures and link to the model I posted is supposedly the same model as yours. If they're not, one would be hard pressed to drive a hair between the difference of the two. It sounds like you've stabilized the hull. Looking forward to photo updates.......KB

    Henry, do you have the original bowsprit or do you need to make a new one? Regarding the hull, you may want to consider some light sanding to knock down the high points staying clear of any surrounding bare wood. That crack in the hull worries me a tad, filler isn't going to keep it from opening further. I think it needs to be stabilized with CA gel or some two part epoxy. Would like to hear what others think regarding same.

    Thank you, Pat. Yes, I am excited about the rigging phase of the build which is the exact opposite of my mindset two years ago. Back then I was dreading getting to this point because of a lack of rigging knowledge but in those two years I've had the opportunity to go through so many great build logs here in MSW. I've also acquired some rigging plans that I'll be able to adapt to the Tennessee. It's all starting to make sense, we'll soon see how much I think I've learned. Mark, Tony, thank you for the likes.

    Thank you to all for the encouraging words and likes. I've been studying the H&H photos and researching different rigging plans and methods. I think I have a good mental grasp of the next steps of this build. I've got all the yards turned and ready to add all the neat little bits that bring them to life, I'm really looking forward to this portion of the build. Hopefully I'll have some closeups of completed yards in the next few weeks. I'll start with the main, then the fore, and lastly the mizzen. The best to each of you with your projects and life.........Keith

    Henry, I think that's a rabbit hole. Once you've gone down it, then your next thought will be, "well I've gone this far, I might as well remove this/these" and before you know it you wind up with a completely disassembled model. Which isn't a problem except, how many broken bits come about in the process? If the existing pieces are well attached, clean as best you can, touch up any paint if you choose and move forward. As the ole saw goes, discretion is the better part of valor. I support whatever path you take, I just what you to have fun with the project. Removing a large number of pieces can lead to a lot of "I wish I had left that alone" I speak from my own past experience.

    Q-tips Good on ya taking photos as you progress. I always say I'm going to but never do Regarding varnish. If it were mine, once all the sanding and cleaning was done, once any/all the painting was done, and once any repairs and wooden piece replacements done, then I'd varnish the whole kit and caboodle. I'd suggest you use a product we have here in the colonies by Minwax called Polyurethane but it's not available there in Merry Ole. Since you don't, varnish is just as good or better according to some. Varnish or poly protects wood and paint and creates a barrier against moisture. Of course, always sample test on a small unseeable area before going crazy. After varnish you can get on with the rigging. Stand? I thought you had the missus talked into holding it ...........yep, better go make a stand. Oh, one other thing. That nail polish remover will remove paint. If you don't want to remove any of the paint, careful as you go.

    Henry, sorry to hear you need supplemental oxygen 15 hours a day. That's pretty much your whole waking period. In my case I'd have to be tethered while I slept. I'm kinda like a Hobbit and meal times when it comes to my naps....elevens, after tea time, etc etc. Don't sand off all that beautiful patina, that's what gives your model character. Nice to see you making progress!

    Henry, any updates on where you are in the cleaning stage, photos? What are your plans for the hull? Sand out the areas of chipped paint and repaint? Same color?

    MFS, I think a 18mm wheel and your house will look balanced. The house is really coming along nicely.
