F-16c 35th FW Misawa "803" by Javlin -Tamya - 1/48 - PLASTIC
lmagna replied to Javlin's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
I think if you have some window cleaner with ammonia and soak it in that for overnight or something you will come out with a clean canopy. So clean in fact that you will have to start all over. -
What a shame you had to pull the whole after deck. Are you going to try and reuse it or are you getting a new replacement?

I should hope to shout Mike. The cockpits came out fantastic! At last someone asks something I know a little about! Not much mind you but a little. If you have any, DIP the canopy in Future or Pledge Acrylic floor polish. This has the affect of almost making the clear parts of the plastic almost disappear! that should have the added effect of allowing your beautiful cockpits to be more visible.

It is strange that CA will not bond PE to plastic in your case as it is pretty much universally considered the recommended method for this kind of building as far as I know. For what it is worth I have had good luck with the Bob Smith line of Insta-Cure glues, using mostly the thinner blends. I also bought a couple of bottles of VMS Flexy 5K under a recommendation from a another modeler, but have not ran out of my Bob Smith glue so have not personally used it yet. It does have the added problem though in that it is only available from Poland and even before the present day mail logjam was somewhat slow in arriving. https://www.vms-supplies.com/flexy-5k-pe-product-overview -
I can assemble adequately, but I can see my limited painting skill level represented in my recent efforts and I need to go a long way in that area to even reach adequate. 😞 In the mean time I will try and learn as much as I can by closely following works like this and others. I do not have any immediate need for a polished metal finish on anything but I do have a couple of kits in stash that could benefit from the technique if I ever got to the point of building them.

Had to look that one up. Looks like the gear my dentist was wearing when I went last week! Sounded like I was visiting with Darth Vader as well. -

Have a good time Craig, hope you find all of the family doing OK. Don't forget your mask for the flying sardine can part of the trip!☠️ -

I need to quit doing these things late at night. I meant to delete that post when i realized the decals were in 1/32 scale. The other ones I posted are 1/48th and less expensive as well. The kit Jack posted is available on eBay. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
