Curtiss P-40B Warhawk by Asat- Airfix- 1/48
lmagna replied to ASAT's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
I have used it a number of times on my Huey build and it has been almost perfect with no loss of surrounding detail. -
Speaking as an old time RC builder, with a lot of glassed hulls under my belt, they all have to go through the Ugly Duckling stage before the swan emerges. (Don't let too many people see that mask. They will accuse you of hording and not turning it over to the hospitals!)

WOW Lou I have no idea if they are out of scale or not. But I do know what the 1/35th pilot harnesses look like on my Huey. They are small, so yours must be TINY. You did a fantastic job in my opinion, such as it is. My hat is off to you. -
This is going to be a great addition Yves. I have a question though. In US subs it was the practice to replace the used fuel space with sea water in order to maintain almost the same total displacement as the fuel was used up on patrol. Was this also done in U-Boats? If so then there would probably be seawater on the bottom of the tank and fuel floating on it. I would think they would be different colors.

I am finding out that there is plenty of tiny stuff at 1/35th also. My pilots on my Huey have TONS of tiny stuff that has been a challenge for me to deal with!! Also mmany of my still to be built aftermarket stuff is looking pretty small and delicate as well. If you are thinking of adding a 1/35th Huey to your collection I have an unopened Dragon kit that I bought when I thought I had wrecked my present build, I also have the old Revell 1/32 kit but I can't remember if it is still wrapped. But at this point I think I would recommend waiting for the release of the 1/35 Kitty Hawk kit. Not many details on it yet and of course it is already over due for release but if it is like their 1/48th scale Huey in detail and assembly method, it may be well worth the wait.

SBD-3 Dauntless 1:48 Hasegawa - Edwardkenway-FINISHED

Even better -
Normally one could say that the fouling on this model is over the top. But in this case it may even be considered conservative based on the verbal descriptions of the ships conditions. What ship is it in your last picture? I would think you would have some of the look of picture "a" as well: This is going to be a very unique model and you are one of the few who has the skill needed to make it happen.

I don't know about the Borg but now that you have let the cat out of the bag that you have a 1/48 C-130 in the stash you are obligated to get on it. That is unless you show us your entire stash. In which case we will pick your next build. WE are MUCH more powerful than the Borg. -
Is the empty room next to the head some kind of storage room, or something else? Fantastic build, I am loving every installment.

1931 Cadillac by CDW - FINISHED - JoHan - 1:25 Scale - PLASTIC

Hope you are able to find the whitewalls. I think I built some of those kits as a kid as well. Weren't the whitewalls just white plastic inserts that snapped into a groove in the tire? If so you think you could make new ones from Plastistrut sheet using a compass. Another somewhat more expensive option is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Jo-Han-1-25-Scale-1931-Classic-Cadillac-V-16-Model-Kit-OPEN/264587698000?hash=item3d9aa7df50:g:ptIAAOSw~8leECgD Or https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Jo-Han-1-25-scale-1931-Cadillac-V16-Cabriolet-model-car-kit-Orig-Issue/114156565646?hash=item1a9442f48e:g:5~4AAOSwndFd1ysr But you could also try to make an offer. At any rate I can hardly wait until I see what you are able to make from this -

You are right Ken. But so was I, I dropped many a bomb and it never hit the prop because of the fork under the wing. A one by six was my aircraft carrier and my whole back yard was my ocean. I think I built all of them as well, but I can assure you that they did not look as good as this one. -
No, you said that you went outside to take the pictures TODAY. And further more you intended to go out again to take more pictures in the natural sunlight. I had no idea Egilman. Shows you how much I keep up with the plastic offerings these days. It must be the same for the M163, (I still want to call it a M113) as the one I got to see just did short bursts and EVERYTHING down range either fell over from being cut in half or just disappeared! Just a soft BRRRRRRRRRR, BRRRRRRR, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR was all it took. The sight and sound of it has always stuck with me.
-
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You went outside? Now we will have to online distance you for at least two weeks! Great looking models Jack. I had no idea you had so many. Too bad they don't make a Vulcan gun in 1/35th. Then you could add to your collection of anti aircraft vehicles by putting one in a M113. I got to watch one in operation once. Awe inspiring weapon system. What happens on the forum, stays on the the forum. No one here would be foolish enough to expose the details of a fellow modeler's stash to his other half! The very thought of such a act would bring instant retaliation!

There is really plenty to be proud of in this voyage of two fleets halfway around the world with very little or almost no outside support Dmitriy. It was an amazing accomplishment by any standards of the day. Truly the ending was sad after so much effort and accomplishment but Admiral Togo was a formidable and combat experienced admiral, who was equal or superior to any naval tactician in the world at the time. Japan was lucky to have another such man in command of the Japanese navy in 1941 and many other admirals of the world suffered the same fate as Rozhestvensky.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
