Wow, looks great Augie. Your spiders must have been busy rigging while you kept up with all our bs and log interference. Must be how you can type and rig at the same time. Really nice, and it's a beautiful ship. Well done Mate!

Ha, ha, ha.......yes, we seem to fit all categories here. Perhaps you could fit the Syrene into the center ring of this circus, then we could see progress?????

Hi Henry, thank you for your gracious offer. I accept. It will probably be in September or so when I get there. We have a wedding in Philadelphia to attend in August, then we'll work our way to Boston and on to Maine. I'll give you pleanty of notice. That appears to be an outstanding tour and I really look forward to it. Thanks for the pictures. John

No lambsbk, the Eels are alive and well in the canals, and the Dutch eat them.

Sjjors, I assumed you had been there since you live in The Netherlands, I have enjoyed my trips there, and miss the cheese markets in Edam and Gouda. I've been to the Floriade twice. Perhaps some day I might be able to return and revisit those areas.

Hi Sjors, yes, I have seen some of those eels, and that was why I included that scene....especially for you and your enjoyment...I have been to Amsterdam a number of times and I recall the "creepy" eels that live in the canals...thanks for the anectdote...

Might be good if you were catching EELs in the canals of Amsterdam, but could be tough otherwise....not real sure I would want to eat what you could catch off of a tug in most ports....might glow in the dark!

Got a little more progress yesterday actually started planking the Wales, and worked on planking the stern. So far, no complaints, working with wook is fun. So here's a few pictures for you know who, and maybe it'll spur Augie to show us some progress....

Enjoy your tour, I'm envious, I look forward to the same in a month or two. This will be an extended trip, so I'll be able to see both. Have fun and eat some lobsters! John

Wow, this is nice. I'm not so sure I'll go to that much detail on my 7 boats, or I might never finish. This are very nice. John

Hi Buck, welcome aboard. Glad you enjoyed the "toys". Keep me posted on the whaleboat I only have 7 of them to build. I intend to build most of them as close to real as possible....at least the ones that are visible. I'll follow your build also. Thanks for your interest. John

Hi Lambsbk, hope you are enjoying Boston. I've been aboard Conny a couple of times, and will be in Boston in the next few months on our RV Trek through New England. I would like to know more about the behind the scenes tours of her when you have time to explain it. I would like to do that. I'm also former Navy, so I've always had some special treatment when aboard her. Are you going to be able to get to Mystic, Connecticut while you are there? It's not real far and that is where the Morgan is moored. Anyway, enjoy your trip. John

Hi lambsbk, thanks for the kind words, yeah, it could be too early to say that, however, wood is forgiving and I like that. Need some primer and paint or filler soon.....lol

Hello Wolf, welcome aboard. I look forward to following your Niagra. I am now doing my first wood ship. Just finished the Constitution by Revell, after 44 years. Yes, I guess we're showing our age here....lol......I'm on Lake Conroe West of Willis about 10 miles. I'm going to be doing some extended RV'ing in the next week or so. So I probably won't be around for about 6 months....going up north, then down to Florida to see an old Navy buddy. Maybe we can hook up either before I leave or after I get back. Be sure and post your build as a log, then we can follow along as you progress. Thanks for following along, John

A little more progress over the weekend. Worked on installing the lashing rails and planked the port bulwark. First attempt to plank, and this wasn't too bad....all straight for the most part. Managed to bend the planks without breaking one, so I guess that's a start. It took me a while to find where the lashing rails went in the plans and instructions. They seemed vague, but I found them on Plan 3, Hull plan and profiles. Learning curve going on here. Here's a couple of pictures. Hopefully I'll get the starboard side tonight or tomorrow.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
