  1. Thanks for all the pictures I'll be using them with my Morgan to follow how you've done the yards and such. Looks great.
  2. Wow Dan, that's an awesome build in that scale. Way too small for me....Keep it up man!
  3. Thanks, I'll be doing the same with your build. I love seeing the variations of how people build the Conny.
  4. nice build, very complicated ship and it looks very nice.... John
  5. Real nice build, keep up the good work. Gives me lots of ideas for my Morgan.... John
  6. Grant, thanks for sharing your tools for making these things become real. Your build is fantastic, and we appreciate your work.... John
  7. having trouble locating my base for final mounting of the ship. I want a nice piece of natural Mesquite, and have located it I think, but it is still in the kiln drying. The guy that owns the lumber mill is not the brightest bulb in the lanterns, and it seems to take dynamite in the proper location to get him to move anywhere. If he doesn't respond soon I think a 24 pounder in the nest might be appropriate. Once I get this done, I'll post the final displays for the Gallery. Hopefully pictures to follow soon. Thanks guys for all your help and insights..........and I'm looking forward to starting the Charles W Morgan very soon.....follow the site, it's up and running.....
  8. yeah Keith I wish I still had my 5th wheel...lots more room...would give me pleanty of work room....I'm now in a 22' travel trailer.
  9. gjdale, mine hasn't been saying that yet, however, hopefully I'll have time to do some shipyard work......
  10. Hi Keith, sorry for the delay in the answer, however, my RV is only a 22' travel trailer.....but gonna make room to work on the ship as we go. This could be a 6 month venture, so I gotta have my girl with me....
  11. Thanks Daniel, my new command is awesome.....and she loves ship models....she's also an artist so that helps too. I'm getting the itch and about ready to get started on this project. I'm going to be taking an extended tour of the US in my RV, but I'm taking the Morgan and some tools with me hoping to at least get to planking while I'm on the road.
  12. Hello Sjors, In all of my dealing with my Conny, somehow I never got around to seeing your build. She's beautiful and I hope I can make my Morgan even close to what you've done. I, as you, like to see pictures and your pictures show her off. Thank you for all the inspiration and beautiful workmanship. I can learn many lessons from this. Keep up the good work. John
  13. Keep up the good work. It's amazing how we sometimes regress to the past so that we can make the future work....I'm glad ebay had a few inexpensive ships....good for parts after all these years. Give that Laz-e-boy a good workout....Sorry your's got demasted....
  14. JP, this all looks fantastic. I will definitely refer to this when I start planking the Morgan. I am going to go on an extended RV trip soon, but will take the Morgan and some tools and plank along the way. It'll be slow cause the Admiral wants to do some touring, but there will be days when perhaps I can work some in the mobile shipyard. Keep up the good work. John
  15. Hi, I know exactly what you mean. I started this model when I was 19 in College...must be why I flunked out then....I was determined to eventually finish the model before I couldn't work on it any more. My original was destroyed by an angry ex in 2007, so I started a new kit in 2009 and have now finished it.....whew, glad it survived this time. MSW had been a Godsend. Without it I don't think I would have finished it.....or at least finished it in short order. I am very blessed to have found this group, and wish anyone working on one all the best. Many start this......but few actually finish her..... John
  16. Yeah, know what you mean about the Admiral....my first was 18 years, the 2nd was about 18, then got a 40 year old and that went for 5 years, now it's five months with the absolute best one I've had...she's my age again.....dang youngun's will kill ya....lol...gotta take care of her....
  17. This is looking good Augie, keep up the good work....it's inspiring... John
  18. Hi Dave, here's a few pictures of the 24 pounder from Model Shipways. It should give you a reference of scale. It is 1:24 and if you need measurements let me know. Hope this helps. John
  19. OK, no problem. I am in the middle of trading vehicles and will be gone this afternoon. I'll try to post the pictures for you tonight or in the morning at the latest. I think you'll be able to get some hints from these. John
  20. Yes, his diorama is one of the best I've seen. You could almost be walking on the deck there. That water is incredible as well as his attention to detail.....even down to the pegleg sailor. Another reference could be to look at Model Shipways site on the 24 pounder naval cannon. It has a deck and bulwarks where the cannon is rigged correctly. I have that one if some pictures would help. Just let me know and I'll post them for you. It has the proper scale blocks and tackle and is 1:24 scale, so you could adjust the scale to 1:96 fairly easy. I can also measure anything for you also. Hope this helps, John
  21. Dave, I don't know it this site will help, but you might see what you need. Look at the photos real close. If not this is a beautiful model anyway. detail oriented ... John http://www.modelingmadness.com/review/misc/ships/carcon.htm
