  1. Thank you all for your kind comments. Well i have some bad news. The ship as is has been scrapped. As I was comparing it to the draughts it had some fatal flaws that made it not at all the ship I was trying to build. I think I may still use it later since it looks good but I'm starting over on the Mercury. To me it's all part of the learning experience. I did the same thing on the cutter I built using the same technique. The first time I built it I planked the hull and it looked so bad I threw it way. It did turn out to be one of my best ships though. I've posted a picture below in case any one wanted to see it. I hope to have pictures of the new and improved Mercury soon.
  2. So many projects...so little time to build....

  3. I've finally got started on a new project. I'm working on a ship called the Mercury. She isn't actually an existing ship but a ship drawn by a pirate in another forum I'm a part of. Truth be told I'm a bit of a pirate as it was the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean that got me into this craft. This ship comes at the request of another pirate so I will do my best to do it well so I don't get keel hauled or marooned some where. I do plan on making this a dual build but for now I'm testing things out. I've done a plank on bulkhead once before with my English Cutter the Fly. It turned out to be one of my best ships so I hope the technique will do the same for these ones. so far things are coming along. If it works out well I'll start the other one. I chose this method mainly to test the draughts. It's one thing to draw a ship it's another thing altogether if your drawings actually work. Also I like the realistic look it gives me.
  4. I looked at the history and some other pictures I think your right. I've put it on my list of ships to build. I love the lateen sails stacked on top of each other I've never seen that before. I don't know who the bottler was either but they certainly did an incredible job. I believe this is a ship in a maritime museum in Germany.
  5. I saw this picture on a SIB blog and wondered if any one knows which ship or type of ship this is? It just looks really cool and i may put it on my list of ships to build but I would like to research it a bit further.
  6. This has got to be one of the coolest ships I've seen on MSW. Props to you for building it. It's looking great keep it up.
  7. A little discussion about CA versus wood glue came up in my modeling club the other day. Some one said that they heard that CA glue comes apart after ten years. I didn't get a definitive source but has any one heard anything similar? It would be a real pain if all my ships were to start falling apart ten years from now.
  8. I love it!!! This is very cool. Your craftsmanship is incredible. The lines look great. Planking will be a nice touch. Have you thought about getting her into a bottle? At that size you may even consider a pocket watch similar to what John Fox III has done. http://www.mosaictelecom.com/~jfox3/forshow.html
  9. It is a little telling that no one given an answer on this. I think this forum doesn't have as many RC builders as static ship builders. I'm still figuring out the details of the small RC I'm putting together. I kind of plan on winging it a bit. For the most part as long as the lines connect to the servo's and it functions properly then you got it. You may stop by an RC shop though. The one by me was very helpful and encouraging. I hope to start a build log after I get a few more ship in bottle commissions and requests done.
  10. This looks like a book I will have to look into. I have been building miniatures and putting them in bottles the last year and a half. I have built two ships with split hull's with the purpose of fitting it in the bottle. I'm not sure if this is the same as the book or even the same technique. I'll have to get a copy and see.
  11. Looking great! I love the molding above the keel. Sorry to hear about your jaw. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. Sure is nice to have mini you to get all that detail work. He's doing a great job. You should give him extra chocolate for his back trouble.
  13. Darn your good. Must have watched the video. http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/steady_as_she_goes Theres the link. It's short and fun. Wish I could have met George Fulfit in person.
  14. Alright took me a while to find the name of this one but it was bottled by one of my favorite ship on bottle builders. I will post the video of that as soon as some one guess's correctly. It's worth watching.
  15. After a long search and much digging I believe it to be Edwin F. Holmes.
