Steven, When you look at the bas-relief, you can see you have taken the right approach. Since the full knowledge on perspective was something ungrasped yet at that time, painters, and sculptures(?) tried to show what they thought would be a good representation of reality, which means you need to interprete according to their standard/knowledge. I wonder if it is a separate unit, as it will be a very weak spot, to me it looks more like the painter tried to show the difference between that part of the mast - it's functionallity - and the rest of the mast ...although, it may be, it is a separate blob as you see it

Morning gents. Some idiot with a popcorn box woke me up in the middle of the night ... the shading, Greg, what's the ratio you use when thinning the paint. Tamiya I presume ... needle in your airbrush ... 0.15 ... 0.2 ? Even a Thud can be beaten .... but lets try to keep this amicable, I didn't know this was a contest .... oh sorry US vs the world right .... have a ball boys, lets do some building Denis. Any ideas yet on what you want to do with her? I refrain from shading, and weathering, I need something bigger to try that outIf I do it on this one ... it will be an ugly dirty coloured blob I'm afraid. This type was first equiped for laying mines. Rails for the mines were placed from the focsle to the aft gun platform. After WWI they were converted. Some multiple times, depending on the need ... even escort service - wonder if that paid well ??? Have a nice day girls an' boys

You got yours - surprise - I've got mine ... the book on the RN V & W class destroyers. Now it's your turn to shine Denis. Show us what you've got (not just the box ) From a quick glance I learned: The Scrap Iron Flotilla was a reference to the group of the V & W class as a whole. Got some clearifying pictures, some making things even more obscure, but hey, what's research for ... if not to get completely mixed up. Pictures, not yet. One thing I can attest to: The oerlicons were situated on a platform, mounted between the two funnels, where in this model two paravanes are meant to be ... so, no oerlicons in the regular spot ... did you find another Greg? Further possibilities: a pedestal neer the aft funnel ... the configuration of this build I haven't seen yet, but I'll be going through the pages ... The Vendetta looks like the Thornycroft V class, whilst those equiped with the higher masts like the Shakespear class, however, this concerns the RN, not the RAN versions ... for those can be refitted in an entirely different configuration ... HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!

Thanks Denis. There is still a gap, as it hasn't been glued to the hull yet As is the other one. Tonight I'll try to have the upper hull painted light grey. After that I can "install" the decks permanently, and you shouldn't be worried you might trip over that gap, or fall into it ... Yes you can prepare. You might start with building up the hull, and the other structures and - as I wrote earlier - paint them whilst you build them. Which structures depend largely on what you want to replace by, either PE or bashing. You got some old remains of wooden/plastic kits hanging around which may have replacement parts, better suited to your "needs". You can also prepare your paint mixtures, e.g. I mixed the brownish deck colour as described above, and the black I concoted from Vallejo black (7 drops) with olive drab (3 drops), takes the edge off the black. The red of the hull was Vallejo fire red and white. Can't recall the ratios ... Yupz getting old The bollards are truely horrendous. If possible, consider buying some large 1/700 scale ones to replace them. Souldn't be expensive at all. There are enough on your side of the pond. Study the drawing Greg supplied in one of his first postings. Have another look at what we did and improve on us You love to walk your own road ... here is your chance to do that in a slightly different way ... (Say hello to your lovely admiral, and give Gibs a pat)

Interesting, I'll be looking over your shouolder to see how you use the CAD software -
Your build keeps fascinating me. A joy to follow, Vaddoc. A real stunning hatch ... what did you use for caulk ... I presume it wasn't the old fashioned tar

I changed my objective from 18 - 200 mm to a macro 0.3m. Got some more touch ups to do ... The painting of the forard and rear gun platforms I took from the drawing on page one of this build log, you can see the distinct differences ... One never gets the proper colour across on a digital image when you want to compare e.g. print with the "real" thing

you can, but you must take care that the wood is of an even thickness all over else you'll be sawing at multiple angles -

I found I'd better get the decks painted before mounting anything else on it. When I look at the forard bridge, I've got myself into trouble painting the structure an' deck. I'll be having a ball getting the verticals painted now the horizontal is done <sigh> should have built it up per "story" Don't make the same mistake mate. It is as good as impossible to mask ... Need some minor touch ups. I think I prefer this colour over the orange brownish from the drawing, although in reality it differs only slightly Next: Touch ups, and colouring the stern, and focsle. After that, I'll start to worry what will be added, and what needs to change ... I look anxious the book to be delivered (postal services ... still waitin', like for me co-builder's promise a few posts back ...)

Have been mixing potions ... The paint for Gunze stone-red-ish is not available in Tamiya, neither Vallejo, so I'm trying to get it right. Unfortunately I started out with the wrong base colour: Tamiya Hull-red, which is a dark brownish colour (XF-9) - I certainly won't be using that one on Musashi(!!!) - consequently I had to add to much of the other colours. So mixture turned out to be Hull Red, Flat red, Flat Yellow (XF-9, XF-7, XF-3) Don't ask ratios, for I mix by eye, as I add spices to my food ... (Talking of food Lou, that apricot ice cream ... yummy!!) Yesterday I got the deck with the main bridge structure primed as well as the deck where most of the interesting parts are mounted, like funnels, torpedo tubes, etc. Today, I hope to get the colour further "refined" so I can enrich those two decks and the gun platforms ... I'm still in doubt of the light grey for the hull and standing structures, as the Tamiya (XF-19) is of a darker shade compared to the Gunze ... decisions, decisions, decisions ... on the other hand, how true are the colours printed on a piece of paper
