Depends on the tickness of the brass. For strong joins: silver solder (wire or paste, paste is easier sometimes), else solder iron with solder. I can solder wih a torch upto (or is it down to) 0.2mm brass wire with silver solder paste. Most will use the solder iron as it is very easy to burn the brass away ... You'll have to try and find out what works for you.

Glad to hear you can manage with wire. Silver solder is expensive enough not to waste it! Looks spiffy

What is causing the uncertainty? So far you have slid quite a few ships in different ssized bottles ... I would expect you slide this one in just as smoothly ...

Quite butts. In graphite you've got H for the hard spectrum and B for the soft it goes from H9 to B9 (European) The softer the fuller the colour, which means e.g. if you have an ordinairy graphite pencil B6 will turn out very dark, nearly black without much pressure and H, HB are general use pencil hardnesses. You get a greyish colour. Furthermore, the harder ones may scratch the surface, whilst the softerones fill in imperfections. A limited reference table US vs European: US #0 EU 2B #1 B #2 HB #2½ F #3 H #4 2H

I have been working on and of this kit. For the content of the box and another build of this same kit I refer you to Piet's marvelous build of this same submarine. I have replaced a few parts in the box: Most of the PE as that was to crude to my taste, and I since I had redundant PE from Musashi, I have used some of that. Whilst sanding the hull, I broke the bollards, so I had some replacing to do, rather easy ... just drill a few 0.2 mmm holes and insert some brass rod, in the end I replaced them all ... Added Primer First paint layers A wee bit more work ... Cheers (The copy right notice has been added programatically so it does sometimes "interfere" with the view)

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
