How life takes ... rips away time ... last update nearly three weeks ago Yesterday more garden chores ... but today it's raining - or as Mark (MTaylor) says, time for the workshop - and I pulled out the airbrush again. Nothing fancy, just trying my hand on shading, but my finger was somewhat trigger happy from time to time The single and tripple AA have a black primer, they'll get first a coat of medium grey, and some light highlights - see how that will work out. And a bit of a model on the side ... (started a log here)

Patrick, That is an impressive, futuristic project you are up to ... any plans available, more images? Look forward to that one mate, almost can't wait for Shadow to be finished!!! Cheers

Thought you wouldn't be able to get clean clothes whilst you had all those laundry pegs in use Daria. Interesting concept the pins to align the bulwark. I'm glad your father finally gave you some propper clamps for your toolbox Your progress is looking good. You should keep in mind that the faster you build, the easier it is to make a mistake. Keep it up Cheers

"the letters are not very high quality" You could use a very thin Rotring pen to trace the outside or accentuate it with shadow dots ... Lovely lights

I would say, a lift for airplane armament and fuel ... I cannot imagine being filled up and fitted within the ship

Quite so Mark. I had a problem getting the solder at the right spot, and solder paste you can put at the right spot before you apply the torch. In your case I could do both joins at the same time, since you heat the parts anyway. When you use the solder wire, you should heat the join from one side and apply the solder from the other. It should flow into the join, but I often burned more of the solder with those kind of joins than had it flow in the join, hence the paste, altough it looks more like a rather grainy liquid. Cheers P.s. Love the build, have been following for a long time

So don't pretend to be ready I won't change my post mate. You're still mighty fast, and even if it isn't ready yet, it already is magnificent ... By the way "I’ve got a shed load on this to go yet." sounds smelly ...

74-gun ship by Gaetan Bordeleau - 1:24
cog replied to Gaetan Bordeleau's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
I wonder how it would be on the real life size model. Those forces would be enormous compared to what you are dealing with ... -
Another magnificent build ... and on top in such a short time! I almost need a breather before you start on the next one ...

Mark, Do you use solid silver solder? I had some good results with silver soldering paste, even with very thin materials which would burn if I used the solid solder wire

John, As Nils wrote a barbary pirate vessel, but the king of France had one, mebby more (ANCRE has the drawings), it was used in Spain, Italy amongst others. You might generalise it to be a Mediterranian vessel Cheers

"set the TV aerial up... " At least you can watch "The Man in the Yellow Hat" during a lull in the fight ... Great work on the mini flight deck, although, I wouldn't have expected a railing on it. On the other hand the crew, sizewise, would easily be blown off. You've got yourself a very nice base board too. Hope it fits in your collection, if not you may always send it over. Didn't know you could phase out ... but what will you phase in to after this one ... Marvelous work again Greg!!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
