  1. Jim, She's looking very smart, and sharp. When you're working on her like this, you suddenly realise how little room those sailors had to move about the guns
  2. She does look well. You have gifted hands Jay. The bowsprit and jib, that's only the length of the lass, what about her masts ... Those Admirals do have some things on their conscience ...
  3. Adrieke, You'll be at it for a wee bit longer. You don't have a drill standard with electrical drill? That would speed things up considerably, and eases up on your hand ...
  4. Sam, Three words: Standing work bench. No sitting required, so you do not need to 'invite' your friend to pester you - 'though he probably will at dinner time and so on ... That slip is only a slight move off center. Knowing you, you'll have that fixed in a jiffy. See you soon, and take care!
  5. Thats approximately 7,5 cm, which is to my opinion rather small. I would sooner expect something in the order of 6". With three you can hardley run a rope around it, and our modern ropes are thinner, in comparrison to those used during Harriet's life time
  6. Mobbsie, Maybe wetting the wood slightly may do the trick. Those model boxes sometimes are waiting for ages for their new owner to pick them up. no wonder, I would dry out too P.s. Sanding? I would use a rasp before sanding the hull down ...
  7. Michael, You're half a farmer! Thank you for the info on the honeycomb soldering block Those chainplates look good, better than the first you made. It has a look of strength about it, what the first one missed.
  8. Hank, You just made my day! What you pay is what you get, that I know. It's the same with programming software (which I use), tools, and quite a few other things. I don't say I will use MicroStation, but I certainly will look into it. I've been trying to comprehend autoCad... indeed I'm still trying (unfortunately trial/evaluation versions are limited to thirty days, which I to often do not have) By the way, Photoshop was a lot easier to learn(!)
  9. Michael, Brass work on the chainplates is as usual excellent. What's that piece of 'stone' you use for soldering. Have seen it before on a build log somewhere ...
  10. Some very sharp work you've been at. looks real good! The catheads ... hmmm that sounds familiar. I had to move them, that turned out alright. I used small drill bits (1 mm) to 'cut out' the opening for the catheads, and filed them to size. Though I must admit it is almost a sin to start that on such a lovely hull ...
  11. Quite Michael, you certainly won't run the risk of water retention underneath the mast now. Your rigging will most certainly not be wandering off when I look at the sturdiness of the materials you are using. Still snow there? We got the temperatures above 0 C, sometimes a lost snow flake, but that's about it.
  12. Michael, As you have a rather wide base, won't the water stay underneath the mast anyway even with those small holes ... due to capilair something (don't know the exact expression in English), and the fact that the plate is level with the part where the mast stands on
  13. Sarah, The aft sail ... it will go down to the boom. The gaff is lowered to the boom (or is it the other way round - anyways the sail is coming DOWN). Those three sails at the front, those slide down as well.
  14. Mobbsie, You mean 'astro-noughts' I presume Never thought about it as a navy ... more like a fishing fleet, and even then 'fleet' is a rather large word for it :D
  15. Michael, Nice work on the mast. Mastfoot looks sturdy. What thickness brass did you use? You're not taking the mickey out of us by putting mini-michael behind your build now do you ...
  16. Dida, I had that, burning the brass, once with the deadeyes, but I diminished the flame and it worked well after that.
  17. Mihai, What would we accomplish without some help now and than ... Have you made a selection for the Gallery jet. She deserves to be in there. It's a beautiful build you have realised.
  18. JP, Still going steadilly I see. Looks good. Sam, Never knew 'what women want'. Still don't ...
  19. Mike, Hats off to you. Those spikes look really great. You must have a rather large fountain of patience.
