  1. Well I tried a little more paint and stripe...I am wanting to move on with this project and although I believe in the future I will be able to create a better stripe (had better luck with the tape but need to gain more patience).  I have to get better at applying less paint more frequently.   Also, I’m not sure hull red was the right red as it was much darker than I thought.C3A71F1C-3F0E-4234-832D-67B9ECCDB9A7.thumb.jpeg.cbf145a5625ca77a94a3cd6d2530a28e.jpegAE8544D6-4BA1-4BBE-8E39-C084200B7142.thumb.jpeg.cb3f2e593b8a714abaf78e25d4b8c396.jpeg2809DEBF-E6D4-4ACA-914A-E630ECEB676D.thumb.jpeg.9b4bd3459664ed8947ca37e20e62cdee.jpeg

For those stating that acrylic paints are expensive - in comparison to what ? I assume you are not shooting undiluted acrylics through your airbrush - they need to be thinned - when you bar a jar of acrylic you should get, as a minimum, 2 to 1 use - to me this is good value.

I am very new to air brushing and have been using vallejos air line of paint, I assumed I shouldn’t thin this paint since it’s designed for air brushing out of the bottle...should I be?  I’m not too concerned with money as all of it is cheaper then the cigarettes I used to smoke lol but I don’t like being wasteful.

  3. The more I look through picture and research, the more I realize how inaccurate this actually is...I’ve read that often gunports on the quarter deck had no port lids since it was so high above the waterline.  It also appears the covering boards extended to the exterior of the ship as well.  Also as Allen states it appears they were all planked on the inside as well, they do appear to be wider boards on the USS Constitution however.  I also see no where that they stored the cannons tools on the bulwarks...mostly just belaying pins?  I must give this some thought before I progress.  I’m also curious about what if any scuppers would be present.  Any input?

  4. I highly recommend spray Insulation as it will heat and cool much easier with little leakage.  Also agree that you should do as much as possible before moving in as working around items is dangerous, slows progress and can damage things (I know from experience).  As a mechanical contractor I highly recommend a mini split which it appears you have already thought of!  Also, install your cabinets before your flooring that way you won’t waste flooring material under your cabinets.  As others have said you can never have enough outlets!  Best of luck!

You have done a wonderful job on the little Tug.  I had this kit years ago when you got the rough hull, some strip wood, blocks and a few castings.  I remember RR guys taking this kit and turning them into show stoppers.  And as I understand now you get w/PE, brass tube smoke stack and no white metal.  Watching you build yours, has me wanting to build another.  Oh, my 1st one, I paid $8.00! Like your approach and detail workmanship.

Thanks for your kind words and showing interest in this build of mine,  this is a fine little kit for sure!  This kit came with a wooden towel for the smoke stack, but I am going to see if I can find a correct sized copper tube to replace, it came with no PE to my knowledge.  The Pilot house was laser cut basswood which is probably a lot easier to work with over a solid block of wood!
