Well, as far as I can tell (so far), this may be it for the main mast pre-rigging process. Now it's pretty much a "rinse-and-repeat" routine for the fore mast rigging with a couple of exceptions. Then, it appears the shrouds are after that, which means getting those masts firmly secured on deck.
Greg, Nice Prep… 👍. What rope are you using? It looks good.
I didn’t like the kit supplied Manila rigging, although the Black was good for the standing rigging. I have been using Amati rope I had on my bench, for the running rigging.

But I may buy another model to brush up on my rigging skills
I understand Bob… you did a great job rigging the Mayflower. Maybe rigging a schooner would be good practice.
Carry on, Sir. 🍻

John,
Nice work on the sails, and nice attention to details.
Isn't it interesting how a simple triangular sail with just a halliard, two sheets and a tack can turn into a plethora of blocks, hooks, lines fairleads, pins and cleats - not to mention the hanks. Oh yes - the downhauls with even more of the same!
Thanks for noticing the detail Phil. I appreciate your comments. There certainly is a lot of detail. 🧐 I know I’m not getting it all perfect, but she is looking good. 😊
More interesting still is the crew coordination it takes to work the rigging to hoist the sails then sail the vessel. It was certainly fascinating to watch the Bluenose II crew on our short cruise on her last summer. It helps to understand how this stuff works.
Cheers 🍻

torn on whether it's better to place the blocks on the mast where needed and then rig the lines or rig the lines through the blocks off-ship and then attach the blocks. Did you find either way easier or a better way to do it?
Thanks for commenting Greg. I appreciate the recognition and encouragement. I don’t mind you asking questions here either, that’s how we get better at what we do. 🧐
As for rigging blocks I do it on and off ship, it really depends on the situation one finds themselves. I don’t think I find any method “easier”. LOL 😆

Oh cool! Mine are "only" 2mm tips! And, according to their website, a local JoAnn's here in KC has 1 of those left in stock of the 1.4mm size. And their website might even be showing a smaller one than that in stock, as well. ROAD TRIP! 👍🤣
And to follow up on Tim's query, I do like your use of the S-shaped hanks on this Bluenose. They do look more "scaley".
Great! Let me know if you find something smaller. I can always use smaller tools. 🧰

Sails look great, John! I’m working on the jib sails now. Was planning to use some split rings I bought locally for attachment of the sails to the stays, but they were stainless and couldn’t be blackened. Waiting on some brass rings from Model Expo.
TimTim,
Thanks for your comment. I usually use split rings but found them to be too out of scale.

Excellent work, John! 🏆👍 Are your jewelers' pliers 2mm size?
Thanks Greg… The tips on the pliers actually measure 1.4 mm. Got them at Joann’s.

Gord,
Glad your back on the Bluenose, it’s been my obsession for just over two years now.
As for the gaps, you might try using carpenter’s glue in them and sanding over the hull prior to the glue setting.
Planking is looking good 👍

Kudos to you for the very very nice work on the sails! I am not a fan of cloth sails as they will never be to scale at our most common scales but your sails are far and away the best ones I have seen in a long long time. Do you think a very high TC cloth (600 or more) would work as well as what you used, using your sewing methods?
Again, great work!
Allan
Thanks Allan, I’m not sure about the high thread count material? I’ll have look into that.

Sails look fantastic, John! Come do mine now, please?!? You've always wanted to visit Kansas City, right?? 🤣🤣🤷♀️🏆
Oh Come on Greg… you can do it. Sails are coming up, right after Shrouds and the Sanding Rigging. You are almost there… LOL
Thanks for the invitation, been there. I’m all set! 😎

Fantastic sewing skills on display!
Thank you, Glen… learned everything I know from the Admiral. I had to, she would not sew my sails for me. She doesn’t do my ironing either. 😆
I now have my own sewing machine, all it cost me was a new upgraded machine for the Admiral. LOL
