Your build is coming along great! My first was a Dumas 1940 Chris Craft Barrel Back that I started a couple of years ago that I’m wrapping up for my granddaughter Adeline. Last step, finally installing the electronics. Enjoying watching your progress!

For the record my carving skills are abysmal. That being said… you know Aflac may have an interest in a new logo! I’m always amazed with this hobby how persistence pays off. No doubt your skills will get where you want them to be. Enjoying your build!

Your build is looking very nice Dave! Pulling up a chair now. I’ve used my airbrush at times for both wood and plastic modeling. A wonderful addition and a fun rabbit hole to wander down.

Nice recovery! One of the things I love about the hobby is you never stop learning and have to be resourceful. Looks like you’re going to end up with a fine model. I’ll be starting the Model Shipways Mayflower soon and am sure there will be lots of bumps along the way. Part of the fun, right?

Thanks for the update. I do hope to get her over the finish line. There does seem to be a variety of Mayflower logs that never wrapped up. My wife wants this for her office so I will have that added inspiration. Happy Thanksgiving!

Better to make it right for yourself rather than live and suffer with it. I’ll take the bin over constant frustration any day!

This is a belated introduction. I’ve belonged to the forum and NRG for a couple of years now. My interest in model ship building has been evolving and growing over the last few years. After retiring in 2015 I began dabbling with model making starting in 2018. I started with a small scale Dumas Chris Craft Barrel Back runabout static model and then moved on to a couple of RC scale model Chris Crafts for the grandkids. On a lark I picked up the Model Shipways 18th Century Armed Longboat to experiment with and a whole new world opened up to me. A few pictures of the completed model are included. 
 

I have to say that I’m now truly addicted. This forum and NRG are a big reason for this. The people that make up this group are simply the best! Whenever I’ve had questions or requested help NRG and forum members are more than willing to help. As a newbie to a sometimes pretty complicated hobby this means everything and keeps me wanting to learn even more.

My next build is the Model Shipways Mayflower for my wife as she is a Mayflower descendant. After that the Emma C. Berry to get some plank on frame experience. Long term, if my skills are acceptable, I want to transition into scratch building.

Oh, the Love/Hate characteristic of this hobby! I love the fact that it requires knowledge and learning in a variety of areas to create a beautiful build. However, sometimes I hate the fact that I need to learn and become competent at something before my project can move forward.

It looks beautiful! We’ll done! This hobby certainly has times where we’re all having to white knuckle it.
