Thanks all for the comments and likes! Mark, if I got it right, there should only be some minor adjustment needed. I plan to stop with the rigging after putting ratlines on the finished shrouds and wait for the Vasa II book. Actually I'm not sure what rigging set up I will give her, because I think of the model as in the summer before her departure, during the preparations. I find it poetic, all that hard work they did only to go under later on. I also always prefered the second act, in the middle of things. /Matti

Hey all, here is an update finally. I've done the other side of the mainmast and made the portside of the mizzen mast. I found it difficult to imitate the sagging curves of the original, but it was easier on the mizzen as the shrouds are angled straight up. First a reference pic I took at the museum: /Matti

Cheers Lawrence and Tony! I don't plan to use the lantern and didn't prepaire for any lighting for it. We can't know how one would look, but after seing lanterns on Vasa models like Marks, I got an urge to do one so I may change my mind later on. /Matti

Nice vid Mark! I remember that Mythbusters did their own test like this. And after some googling here is a compilation of their test: http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery/6542-mythbusters-pirate-pig-splinter-test-video.htm And yeah the pigs makes it all feel... well bad taste. But if I remember correctly their experiment had the right velocity and thickness of wood, and the pigs does show how a human would be affected by the hit pretty well. /Matti

Yeah, life must have been hard, and all the diseases that killed huge numbers... Repairs must have been difficult. /Matti

Thanks guys! I've had less time to work on the ratlines, but I seem to have picked up speed so I'm soon getting done with the other side of the main mast. So much more enjoyable part of the build compaired to what I thought before starting. Cheers for all the likes! /Matti

Cheers pops! Yeah, well work's hectic now, and doing the ratlines are relaxing to do. I thought it would be tedious as there are so many knots, but when one line is done, it's done. After applying some varnish that is. /Matti

Hey Law! I'm doing the mainmast ratlines on the portside. Thanks for checking the build buddy! /Matti

Love your model Jesse, the rope work is top notch! Sorry to read about the bowsprit, but you managed to repair it well! I would have prefered CA, as in my opinion its easier to hide the seams with some gentle sanding. /Matti

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
