No way to know without a rigging plan..  They could be any number of lines..

On models such as this, making bands of this type can easily  be made with black card stock.
A little matte varnish and you are good to go.

What works best for me is to scan the plans, then use a Bézier pen in Corel Paintshop to plot the outline of a bulkhead or other part on a separate layer.

I then save that layer as a .bmp which works with my laser engraver.

I believe some free programs like Inkscape will convert .bmp to vector drawings, if you need to convert for your CNC.

Historic Ship Models by Wolfram zu Mondfeld Has a lot of information about the purpose of most lines.  The information spans several centuries
and many types of rigs. Here is the index, which gives an overview of topics covered.

Gregory got a reaction from CraigVT in Speaking of Plank Benders - homemade plank bending jig
I thought I would share my little idea for plank bending.

I'm not sure how original it is, but I have never seen one just like it..

Basically, it is half the bottom of a large tin can, attached to a base board.

I place the end of my wet plank into the slot  and use a clamp to adjust the amount
of bend ..  ( I soak in plain water for a few of minutes, depending on the type of wood )

I direct a hot blow dryer onto the jig for about two minutes.  This is usually enough to dry the wood.
This picture does not show the wood, but it is there when the dryer is on.

I wait at least 5 minutes before taking the wood out of the jig.  It needs to cool before the bend is fully set.

Here is a nice collection of photos of what looks to me to be a very good model of Bounty:  http://www.modelships.de/Bounty_II/Photos_Bounty_II_details.htm. I pulled this photo from the set.

The detail is hard to make out, and there may be different opinions as to the accuracy.

Yes, I have. For deck planking.
And I agree that the grain is very pronounced, but I disagree that you can have "scaled" wood grain. True to scale wood grain I don't think you can possibly discern.
As far as appearance, it depends on what you fancy.
Although, I admit I'd probably not use it again, once all the deck furniture and guns and rigging are added, it still provides some character and texture to the deck, which otherwise might be flat and dead looking.
Not sure I'd plank a hull with it.

Probably not real practice, but effective on models IMO..
