Thank you Kurt for giving me the obvious solution.

Led Lights arrived today, intentions are to use these where possible to simulate internal lighting only, like the hanger, Bridge, and passage ways I need to think ahead as to how they are going to fit, but they can be cut down to lengths of 3 leds,

the last phot was just to see what they will look like, and how easy it will be to hide any wiring, I have a remote control for them on its way, so lol i hope they do the job

What join for the railing ends? I can't see it - must be my old modeller's eyes . Well done, now don't lean your thumb on it when you go to attach something else later on (don't ask how I know ).

Only another 1,744 to go Slog . Seriously good looking though, much better than the generic PE railings. I'm a bit lucky with Amatsukaze in that the stanchions, while not fitting exactly to the marked positions, are pretty close. Marking them for drilling is a pain though .

Pity they didn't have the tab on the stanchions on the BOTTOM instead of the top - it would have made cutting them out of the tree a lot easier .

I'd say the other guy's stanchions may have come from HERE. They have centred rails.

BTW - have you seen these 3D Photo Etch Railings? Probably still have the problem with alignment though.

Nice work Slog. I find these type of assemblies are the most fun to build on the whole model. Enjoy.

The three sections of Deck are on and I've finished adding all the extra card to the bulkheads etc, and also added some between the upper, middle and lower "decks" to remove any slight bows between the wider spaced bulkheads as well as stiffening everything up. Now to spend a day or so Fairing everything. I'm not all that happy about the printing on the deck timber, the joins stand out a lot more because the colours of the planks don't match at the joins :

    Hi Danny, great progress.

I commented on exactly the same colour mismatch on my now defunct Bismarck log.  Its a pity they don't review and tweek their kits periodically to fix things like that.

I had some full length shots on my log showing the full deck and I had hoped at the time that once superstructures were placed the areas where they were joined wouldn't be so obvious.

    Cheers
    Slog

I have this exact same kit with the PE and turned brass gun barrels. The hull is only part plated. If you allow I can follow you as my experience with card is very limited. Your log will be extreamly helpful.

Have to agree with you Dan. Looks a bit messy, like the parts are discoloured. When I look at it, the proving of the print went all wrong, I've done that, and it can be quite hard to get it right, but when one pays for it, it should be done properly! The spacers and additonal strengthning give it sturdy look ... nice going

I see what you mean Danny......I would have imagined they would match better since the deck was probably printed as one piece,  then split up later.  still looks quite impressive though....the hull has some 'beefcake' now

The berthing rail attaches to the main rail with two eyebolts.  A stanchion is threaded onto the rail before it is inserted into the eyebolts.  This is secured to the false rail.  Netting extends from the berthing rail down to the main and false rails, leaving an opening for the boomkin.  Conceptually, this is pretty straight forward.  However...  Tulle is netting used to make veils and formal wear.  The netting openings are 0.05" which is 2.5" at this scale.  The netting opening needs to be 3-4".  There is no fabric manufactured that fits the required specifications.  (Believe me, I looked!)  Other options I looked at were hand-tying the netting or finding a non-fabric substitute.  Hand-tying was not going to happen.  The closest I could get was screening material.  This comes in two basic types, metal and nylon.  I found an old screen door and helped myself to a piece of the screening.  The net opening was 3 1/2".  I attached this to the berthing rail with multiple knots.   Still not sure if I like the looks of it, since the netting should be natural and not dark, but for the time being it is the best I can do.

It's always a great moment when you apply the clear finish and see all that beautiful timber come to "life" .

A word of caution regarding the aft Timberheads, if you're not already aware of it. Most of them aren't simply a straight cut like those on the forecastle, nearly every one of them has an increasing angle that follows the sheer as you travel aft and you'll need to adjust your saw to suit. They are also cut on an angle athwartships due to the greater tumblehome.
