  1. Nice work, and I just love your hull colour. . Bob M.
  2. Last week @Gabek, gave me a hand full of Viking crew members and 3 Vikings builders. Gabe told me to look for free files to print from Thingsuniverse , thanks for posting these. This is what we came up with. The figures were black I primed them all white And began to paint them This is Kurt, he is a builder, This is his twin brother, Keith ,he is a lawyer and comes in two scales. The twins are taking the Bone-Hed brothers back to stand trail for crimes. You can see them tied back to back on deck, lol. We forgot about the foot lockers, so I will be making them up today. lol once painted they will be fine. Today is going to be a fun day, its a play day in the ship yard. I plan to finish this and put a case over it. First I have to make the case lol. ,it should be easy ,it only 20x11 by 11 high. Measurements in inches. Time to play, This bunch of crew is starting to fight over seating arrangements lol. Time to glue them on. But first the foot lockers. Bob M.
  3. @Literalman ,Yes, thank you , your package arrived today thank you, I will , write your name on the bottom of the hull , that way you will always be part of the build, Thank you so very much. Bob M.
  4. I hope Rodney likes it @Keith Black, I sure do. I got this grin on my face today, looking at the twins. I painted the rubbing strip and the white boot top . It was a piece of cake, masked it off , brushed on a quick couple of coats , peeled the tape off. I had to make up these stayirons, I flatten a wire punch some holes in it and naied them on. After the stayirons were painted and installed the rest was pretty easy. So both ships are looking good, I have the ratlines on the Scientific Bluenose to do,only the lower ratlines go on, according to the plan there is no top shourds or ratlines. I see why,,,,,, the way it went together the shrouds would have not lined up right. Oh well I am thankful for the few the I have to do. Speaking of thankful, I have so much to be thankful about, the Frist Mate said she will sew all the sails ⛵️ for both Bluenoses. She did ask that I don't bug her about how long will it take, and are the ready yet. Lol. And @Keith Black, thank you for your needle threader idea, it really speeds up the rigging, no mess , thanks. There is just a few things to go through, all the booms and gaffs on both ships need to have the blocks and parrels added. That won't give the Frist Mate enough time for the sails. So I think I will let Freddie fish for awhile , I am going to go figure painting. My good friend @Gabek, has made me so many figures, I am way behind. PLUS he has made me a light house and some , wait for it........ Adélie penguins 🐧 for the Astrolabe, that I believe I will be finishing the rigging on while waiting for the sails. So greatful to be part of this hobby, as the rest of life is , life, this hobby is the greatest thing. I have several others to thank as well, soon my freinds. Bob M. And the crew.
  5. That's a lot of great rope work Bryan, you can rig just about anything now I bet. Great work. !! Bob M
  6. Portside is rigged today, stays tied on and the chain plates are painted brass. Freddie says change theses dories, he doesn't like green. So we painted them. Speed paint. My good freind and fellow ship mate @Gabek has made for me some Vikings rowsmen for my Darkkar as well as a very distinctive looking fellow that is a ship builder This might be my new masscott, Gabe told me to look on Thingiverse. All kinds of free files to down load, thanks you so much for posting these files. They are all primed up ready to paint at a latter date. I am going to set the masts and start rigging the Scientific model tomorrow. Exciting times in the ship yard, lots to do, and two more models are set to arrive in the near future, it's a good thing too, I had eight models in my stach, lol. Now I have none. Just a train to do someday. Early night tonight, but back at her tomorrow, thanjs for stopping by. Knocklouder FFBI 🛟
  7. I have five that are slightly larger, would these work for you. Knocklouder.
  8. Starboard side shrouds, ratlines and stays are done on to the portside. Everything is out of the way, free access to ratlines 🙂. That's it for today, being pulled out of the shipyard for awhile but with 120 or so glove hitchs calling it will be hard to resist 😉. Thanks for looking in. Knocklouder FFBI 📛
  9. Just when you think all is well, boom, a miss calculation on Rodney's part. We have the hawse holes are in the wrong spot, The plan shows the hole below the white line. It a bit of a pain, but I can fix it. 🧐 but it is a bit of a downer. This is my little jig for deadeyes, it happens to be exactly the same size as another ships spacer, after the shoulds were on, it was on to the ratlines , thats when I notice the hawse holes. oh well what can you do lol. The deadeyes are lined up , they look good to me, good enough for me anyway lol. Well the shrouds and stays are ready to tie up, I will leave the four stay till later, it gives me so much room for ratlines. So the ever changing plan is to run the ratlines, tie the stays, fix the hawse hole, then work on the booms and gaff. I told the first Mate that I may need the sails soon, she said......, well, let's just say I be working on the Scientific Bluenose for awhile. Lol . Freddie is ready to go, he pretty good as a ship inspector, but he a little to quiet for me, just wants to fish most of the time. Thanks for checking things out, for ever greatful I found this hobby. 10. Rigging continues, and it really not that bad. I have all the shrouds and stays run an the deadeyes just need to be tied. One of those stays gets belaying to pin #5. Lots of deadeyes left, more blocks than what I need , but better than not enough. Tomorrow I will try to tie up the lines and hopefully 🐀 lines . Lol Thanks for looking in. Knocklouder FFBI 🛟
  11. This is the place to be ,good luck on your journey. .. Bob M.
  12. @bhermann glad to have you on board.I build for the fun of the hobby and trying to make them look like ships is the most fun you can every have. Jumping ahead, I started looking into the sails the kit sails were badly stained and after washing them it didn't help. So I asked the First Mate for some help, she reluctantly agreed to help. . She started by ironing the original sail then we cut out a test sail. We got ready to sew and we didn't have the right color of thread. So we put it all away and she will continue later. I am so lucky to have her. Love of my life. Mean while Frank the fire man is getting ready to put the stay back in place. And with one chop of the axe, everything fell back into place. So I painted up the chain plates and will move on to the foremast, I think she starting to look good, thanks to all the help I get here. @John Ruy has been so helpful, I ask his advice on all most every thing I do. Lol. But if I wonder off course from time to time , he helps me focus. Lol. On to the foremast starboard side rigging. Ratlines first lol. 😆 🤣 Thanks so much for all the help and likes l am receiving. A greatful member of MSW/NRG, just signed on for another year, . Knocklouder FFBI 🛟
  13. Paul, This is the place to be, everything you need to know is here, great data base, great members. Have as much fun as you can, its the greatest hobby And this is the best place on the web for it. Welcome aboard from up North in Canada. Knocklouder
  14. I am not sure if there is any trick , except becareful I broke mine twice while building, and have to fix them again as I broke them moving it around putting another model in the display case The kit comes with spare parts for the railings, and @chris watton has your back if you need replacement 😀. The figurehead, leave it in the box until the last possible time. Yes , I broke that to lol. Knocklouder
  15. Work on the lower deadeyes was painful, the plastic deadeyes have to go in a piece of brass and crimped on. I broke four, but Rodney has a box full of these , no shortage here. Lol. I have the holes for the rest of the blocks but will install them latter. In my haste to get'er done I, after the upper ratlines were done I tied the stays. Now I will have a hard time with the lower ratlines. Freddie said just take the back stay off, and then you will have lots of space. Looks that way, I will remember to do all the ratines first before the stays as I go forward. Freddie is looking over the plans for the Scientific, he says let's finish the Billings Boat first because there are too many numbers and different sizes for everything and it too confusing, and it doesn't take much too confuse me these days lol. So, we will consider the idea, it is so much fun building a schooner, I may look for another one to do latter. Rumor has it that there is a ship in the mail headed my way, Freddie says I am the luckiest guy he's ever meet. Lol. I will let you know when it gets here. . Back to the ratlines, my happy place . Thanks for looking in. Knocklouder FFBI 🚢
  16. When you have a plan, and diagrams to follow it to you just grin. 😁. All the booms and gaff still need a block or to but we'll on the way. Some of the mast fitting installed, paint thouch ups all around , but I will do them all latter. Time to start running some thread, I am so glad . The cat points out all the rigging line are in stock. I set up my rigging department, let's rig. Shrouds are ready to rig as well, plenty of blocks and fittings . So on to the shrouds, then ratlines, lol I wonder if I can tie all the rstlines in one day lol. Well that my ship, I think I will run the shrouds and the rat line on the Billings Boat then do the same on the Scientific model,I am finding it confusing to follow both plans they are different. Thanks for popping in. Freddie says Rodney has the lower deadeyes install all ready, they just need adjusting they will be fine. That half the battle done , the upper deadeyes will be a walk in the park. Knocklouder FFBI 🚢
  17. Freddie is ready to start his new job as Building Inspector. But first a few casts, line fishing on the Bluenose. 😊. Now that John Ruy has supplied all the information I need to move forward it has been write down and stowed away , Freddie says it's time to reel in the booms and gaffs. Freddie went over all the plans, says we are in good shape. Just keep the compass pointed to: @John Ruy ° by MSW °. And we will be fine, clear sailing no rain in site. On to the booms, lol Knocklouder FFBI
  18. This picture is the same as the last picture, But the more I looked at it today, the more I didn't like it. The masts were a brown color, and the Bowsprit mast was white. So I changed it. First, I primed it, then I speed painted it to something I liked. Now I have to let it dry over night then seal it tomorrow. So I hired this fellow to help out. And right away he starts pointing out things, shees, so I filled his mouth with paint, lol. He was made by my good friend @Gabek , we met up today and he unloaded on me. To many things to show, lol. And he told me , look, just to let you know I am busy till winter, ...of 2027 so make a list lol. Yes I like this a lot better. I ran into a slight problem it seems. I am missing a few sheets of plans, and the part that tells you what size rope to use, what blocks go were how many holes do they have. Lucky, @John Ruy to the rescue, thanks so much, looking at his log for his Bluenose and a few emails to him, I now will attempt to rig this schooner. And by following John Ruy, I can't go wrong. 😁. Thank you so much my friend. Bob M. FFBI
