    Back at working on the gun port lids. Here is my method to make it less annoying and time consuming: Paint the inside of all lids. Three coats of red are usually good to cover the wood. I then proceed with sub-assemblies, for instance all four lids used on the main deck. These are kept in the right order and I mark the lines of the planking, so that the lids when closed are following the hull planking. Planking of the lids takes place, followed by some sanding and verification that everything inserts correctly in the ports. Then, painting of the outside is done: The edges are painted in red, carefully: All the hardware is prepared after a soaking in a chemical solution, cold water rinsing and drying: The hinges are then positioned, according to the holes in the hull. That is a delicate part that must be done carefully for a good alignment of the ropes. The ropes used to lift the lids are then attached: And the lids glued to the hull, in their respective ports: 14 more lids to go.... Yves

    I find interesting the use of dual four pistons calipers on the rear brakes. Plenty of braking power, for sure. Yves

    It is interesting to see how Renault designed the air intakes on that car. I like the distance between the exhaust and intake impellers, on the Turbo devices, allowing for excellent cooling between the two sections. That model helps you discover some of the engineering and technical challenges, the Renault engineers had to deal with on that F1 vehicle. Yves

    That is gorgeous. Incredible of realism..... I would think that the wooden box underneath would be sagging more under the load.... Yves

    My feeling is that these moving pistons and crankshaft are more for the pleasure of the builder than anything else. It is a little wink to the mechanically inclined and is a legacy of most Protar kits which had some kind of moving parts. Protar in the good old days, produced a Moto Guzzi V7 (1/6 scale) that had all kinds of working features, including the engine, gearbox and transmission as well as some electrical features. Yves

    Kevin, you did a fantastic job with the freeze. Congratulations. I also like the fact that you used a deeper blue (possibly Outremer...) for your base color. I did the same with my Bellona and I really like the strong contrast it offers. It feels more powerful and more in line with a fully armed vessel, than the pale and washed blue we see on other models. Just my two cents.... Yves

    Nils, What a great model you put together. I really love these Sweedish boats and wish Billing Boats could re-issue the Bohuslan and the Hjejlen in 1/48-1/50 scales. I am sure they would have a lot of success on the market place. Yves
