  1. Nice,.... and just as I feared....with any hardware purchase, the accessories one may accumulate will likely surpass the cost of the original investment ---LOL--- the software to run the CNC enhancement is not even included with the hardware----a pricey adventure me thinks--- JP
  2. Hi Andy, It's difficult to tell from your attached images but I fell into a trap at that point. If those cut outs are intended for the foremost cannon openings (on the lower most deck level) they may be situated too close to the false keel....I had to do some revisions further along in my build as that space conflicted with the actual placement of the hawse holes. I will soon post an image or two in the "latest update" thread as I am currently hanging the anchors in my WVH build. They may help with the confusion as stated before,... the plans are somewhat misleading in places... just wait 'till you get to the stern....a major challenge. JP
  3. Just received my MF-70 yesterday through Amazon after struggling with the same questions....there are many ways to accomplish any task related to this hobby but the mill will certainly add a degree of accuracy to many of them. I saw some You Tube videos with the unit being automated through a connection with a computer...something I will definately look into! JP
  4. I choose (f)...none of the above..... The Corel kit is comprised of high quality components and in time, yields a beautiful model. The plans and instructions need to be studied.Progression should take place when comfortable with each and every step. Purchase the kit when sales are offered and the exceptional value of the kit is evident upon opening........ JP
  5. Enjoy the journey Andy,.....I'm on the homestretch now with my version of Corel's flagship kit and would be pleased to help in any way. There are some small inaccuracies with the plans and instructions but nothing that can't be overcome. My build log was lost in the great crash and I never did get around to starting up another. The link you have supplied is an excellent source for images and I have used it many times! JP
  6. Oh, ... that's how the Corel Victory is supposed to look ---- Very Nice rendition !!!! I built the same kit years ago straight out of the box and it is no where near your standard.... looking forward to your progress. JP
  7. Many thanks,.... this just saved me........ JP
  8. "....The feeling you want is that feeling you get when you have a used up felt tip magic marker that is out of ink, you can't write your name with it but you could still ruin a white linen tablecloth if you pressed hard enough." LMAO....that line is priceless...and accurate...real experience by chance???? JP
  9. Nice work....I've admired you progress quietly from the start! I have always found it challenging to get the angles accurate when the rake of the masts and the angles of the tops are concerned......looks like you have nailed it. ....nice pics. JP
  10. Perhaps the following images help with rigging blocks and such....I put together this contraption which is a takeoff on the third hand and it helps with my rigging further up in the masting. My method is a hybrid of sorts as I don't complete the full masts off of the ship but assemble in sections on and off the vessel. This is the Wappen Von Hamburg from Corel in progress JP
  11. Thanks everyone for looking in,... and I plan to provide a more detailed review when I crack everything open and start the build log. With so many detailed and wonderful longs in progress I just hope I'm able to maintain the standard that seems to be constantly increasing here at MSW.......Cheers. JP
  12. LOL... trust me,...I had nothing to do with the photoetch set you received... and again, I feel your pain. JP
  13. I hear the frustration and can empathize......with my my current Corel WVH build I often tire of the constant cross referencing between the various sheets especially now that rigging is underway. I'm often stymied as to how I should proceed for accuracy and blame the plans when things get complicated....however, I usually make sense of the plans' directions after having an "a hah!" moment and all the misdirection actually falls into place. I think It is just a matter of figuring out the method of madness used by each manufacturer. I also just felt the sting of what I consider a major purchase recently..... these kits are expensive but when you break them down into the hundreds of components found in the boxes.... the price seems to be more reasonable (?) compared to the initial "sticker shock" associated with the kit as a whole........just my take at the moment. JP
  14. I received shipment of the Le Renommee kit directly from the Italian manufacturer EuroModel in quick fashion......actually took only a couple days to reach my hometown. A glitch with the local couriers delayed things a few more days (partly because of a weekend) but I can now present the contents to anyone interested. I hope to start construction and a log as soon as my WVH (by Corel) is done....(I've made solemn vows with her). While costly, the EuroModel kit is superb with respect to the quality of components and the plans are detailed and comprehensive. A major effort is underway by the manufacturer to lessen the burden with the language barrier and provide direct translations of ship related terminology. Also, "interpretive files" and references for the various ships available thru Euromodel are available at the website. I hope to mimic the achievements of one particular build represented in the customer galleries, also found at the website...just like any kit or scratchbuild, the effort and time invested is generally revealed later when viewed by those who express some interest.th Images with comments to follow..... A safe and secure package No lack of plans here!
  15. I agree Mike,... I hope I can do her justice. It'll be a while though, unless I break my vows to my WVH....don't know if I can handle two builds at once.....stay tuned ....... JP
  16. Well, she is Canada bound now and I think I am over the buyers remorse period.... wow!!!......taxes, shipping costs, and exchange rates sure add to the "bottom line". I'll be sure to provide an open box preview of the kit contents when the time comes and hopefully follow up with a build log at some later date. I don't think the Le Renommee has ever been featured in a log here. JP
  17. Well,...opening this thread just cost me an arm and a leg. I couldn't hold back any longer and the 20% discount pushed me over the edge......I should soon be the proud owner of the Le Renommee. There is one particular version of it displayed on their site that has inspired me for some time. Thanks for the heads up about the discount... I think......LOL
  18. Nice to see a fellow Wappen builder on line........I hope to include my log soon (mine was lost in the great crash) as I'm installing masts and yards at the moment. The kit is superb and I have many progress images to help out if need be. Enjoy the journey! JP
  19. I'm sure you'll enjoy the many hours she'll provide. Could you elaborate on the nature of the fittings supplied by the Billings brand...thanks a bunch. JP
  20. I have also been contemplating this particular kit as well and am glad to see all the positive comments on the Euromodel brand. Looks like I should have pulled the trigger a while back as the Canadian Dollar is starting to sag............frustrating!!! JP
  21. With all due respect, I would suggest a lock on the door to the "spare room".........and allow visiting only under supervision. Just my two cents........... JP
  22. This is exactly my dilemma with my build at the moment but I agree with Ganymede's response.... and with respect to plans in general, depicting the miles of rigging accurately must be an arduous task for kit manufacturers. Research and patience is the key.......... JP
  23. Been there,.... done that.....good on ya' for correcting! JP
