My Wappen Von Hamburg is currently on hold but would agree that it is the flagship of the Corel line of ships....I paid a little more than the listed sale price a couple years ago and this was after watching the prices bounce around for a time. I would suggest the list price is crazy high but that is what marketing is all about. JP

Since I've been pondering one of the EuroModel kits for some time (pricey though), it's nice to see positive commentary... and on a side note, I noticed Model Expo is now offering this line in addition to their other European offerings. JP

Hi Chris,...I understand the book is in German (correct me if I'm wrong please)...do you consider it helpful with the kit build?...I should be able to pick one up on Amazon (but I loathe any purchase sight unseen)...so I'll have to rely on your recommendation. JP

Hooray! ... another WVH build......I've stepped the masts on my rendition of the Corel kit and begun the standing rigging. ...... would love to share my progress and get your thoughts. (I suppose its time to reintroduce my log that was lost in the "Great Crash". Looks like you're a seasoned veteran,... the ship looks terrific and begs to be fitted out...... \jp

First of all let me offer more praise for the exceptional work on your Berlin. We must have similar tastes since I am currently working on the WVH and have the Berlin on standby......If I ever get off my duff I'll re-introduce my WVH build log which disappeared with the great crash. I'm sure your version of the Hamburg will be just as or more spectacular than your efforts with the Berlin...Keep the updates coming... I'll need all the help I can get when I begin my version the Berlin. JP JP

Slowing down the Dremel Rotary tool

An older single speed model I own is hooked up to a sewing machine foot pedal........works like a charm a quite and responsive for those "delicate" tasks requiring precision. I'm able to get quite a range of speeds from a basic crawl to full out....... JP -
After the "math" is done and max plank widths are determined, I suppose 2 or 3 of the supplied planks could be glued together giving you a wider surface to accommodate the "spiles"........ JP

However one chooses to tie the ratlines, I think, would be determined by the scale of the current project....but one should also be aware that the shrouds should be as taught as possible. Otherwise, any effort to complete the ratlines would be that much more difficult and almost impossible if they are too loose....don't ask how I know .......... JP

Corel kits have never let me down with respect to the kit contents.....plans and instructions need special attention, however. The more expensive kits include beautiful walnut material with perfect edges. I'd really like to try the Le Renommee from Euromodel but costs are a major consideration , gotta' pay attention to sales.......the pics however of this kit leave me salivating. JP

Yes, the method helps to maintain consistant spacing between each ratline. The trick is to acheive proper tension.....I'm also in the midst of attaching the lines on my WVH but I've hit some sort of wall...I find myself procrastinating.......dreaded ratilines! JP

Yikes! Perhaps your "fix" could be documented in the "boo boo" thread ......I also started my ratlines and convinced myself to start over.....just didn't look right...luckily I avoided your misfortune. JP

Jpett.....the .particular volume is "The Period Ship Handbook" ---he concentrates on the Royal William for the most part but the Berlin is included among others--- Oddly enough he also alluded to the minor failing of the kit regarding "scribing" the deck ....but I as well as most builders would choose to add individual planking when the time comes. JP

JPett,... I also have this particular Corel kit on standby and look forward to sharing the adventure later on. Nice commentary on the kit contents,...it's been my experience that Corel doesn't disappoint. Keith Julier has also added some tips on the Berlin construction in one of his series on various builds...it may come in handy. JP
