  1. Hey Hamilton! Thanks. I'm looking forward to it myself. Seems the closer I get the more the 'Law of Diminishing Returns' comes into play
  2. JP- flattery will get you everywhere Andy - Nice to have someone aboard with some patience. Thought I'd try a little deconstruction today. Did you know that if you knock off a bumpkin the foremast main yard backstays go 'boing' which somehow causes the marble ashtray to roll out into the garage which scares the neighbors dog........long story. All fixed. Yes, fishin' tomorrow AM for the suicidal (but reflex testing) brook trout back up in moose territory. Life is really tough!!!!!!!!
  3. If anyone complains, just indicate you're sailing into the harbor of a dubious ally and wish to purvey your peaceful intentions
  4. Robert - Thanks. Looking forward to progress on your Mars (no pressure). Nils- Thank you for your interest. On the anchors, a variety of sizes of casted anchors and stocks are sometimes available through Model Expo. I don't know if that helps you because of your location. I should think you could find a more local supplier in Germany or the UK. I did use the cast anchors but not the stocks as I feel a true wooden stock is more pleasing.
  5. Yup. Been over a year since I did it and things are holding up like new.....except the color is finally darkening. I think some folks have put some sealant over their copper tape but I'm not sure how that works out.
  6. Thanks Frank. Yes the case is here and I'll be getting to work on it as soon as I'm done on the lady. Someone asked me to post details so I'll throw in a few shots here later on.
  7. Sorry if I wasn't clear, John. The method uses 1/4" copper tape which is self-adherent. On my 1:64 the individual plates are 11/16" long but they're laid down in lengths of 4 plates each strip being 1/4 by 44/16". There are some photos on pages 1 and 2 of my log but the narrative was lost back on MSW 1. The tutorial gives the specifics.
  8. There's a tutorial by Gene Bodnar on copper plating with tape using nothing by scissors and a pounce wheel. I used it and it worked pretty well. Check it out!
  9. Larry- the buoys are just a piece of dowel sanded to shape and painted a 'muddy' brown. John- intend to go with new MS Essex, probably fully rigged. The first kits for the admiralty version are just being shipped now and a review has been posted by Jaxboat. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/948-model-expo-essex/page-8
  10. Just a quick update. The anchors and anchor buoys are rigged and ready to mount on board. The buoys will be hung from the shrouds and some fiddly work needs to be done around the catheads. Then there are rope coils to be deployed, some finishing touches and.........and......... Oh yeah ----- the case !!
  11. She's looking great. Thanks for posting, Scoot. Haven't seen her in 35 years. For a second I thought John had taken his outside for a photo shoot
  12. I agree with Druxey. Shellac is never water proof.....it can be very water resistant but only after many layers are applied. I share your disappointment and hope someone can provide a workable solution.
  13. That's just the smoke from the 'try works' where they render down the whale blubber. It will even out once they nail Moby Dick
  14. Moving at warp speed there, John. Really shaping up. Glad to hear your ship (RV) is coming in. Good luck on the shakedown cruise.
  15. Sign me up for the support group. Usually when I need to make a scarph joint it's because I screwed something up so I stand on my head to make it disappear
  16. Aha- so the 'real world' reared it's sometimes ugly head! Happens to all of us. The important thing is that you and the family are well and your efforts now allow you to return to us . WELCOME HOME, MATE!
