  1. Moose anecdotes welcome here! Thing is, you picked a dangerous time to be near a big boy........that period is close to the rut and they get a lot less friendly. Same with elk. It's great to be outdoors with the creatures who call it home. N. America must have been really spectacular 200 years ago. Just glad some of it still is.
  2. I'm going to go with bgarden here and say that you need more fairing on the hull. If there is any way to get the planks off I'd go that route. I hope you didn't use CA as that makes it really tough.
  3. For adolescent male moose, best bait is a female. You can figure out the reverse situation. And I'll trade you 3 run-of-the-mill moose for one 2.5# rainbow anytime.
  4. Not to turn this thread back into animal house, and because someone-we-know can only relate to photos, here's a shot of my fishing buddy yesterday:
  5. I know the parts you are talking about are very small and that using primer is almost unreasonable. Sometimes brass has a coating on it so you might try soaking them in acetone for a while then drying them off carefully before trying the black again. You could also try thinning your paint quite a bit and using multiple coats. The first 2 will look terrible but it just might 'take' after that. See if you get any other suggestions and let us know how you make out. GOOD LUCK!
  6. Sorry John.... I haven't much of a clue. Perhaps making your own stencil off something from the internet and painting? I know ..... not easy. There is also 'decal paper' which can be purchased from a place like Micro Mark or someplace heavy into model trains. You get a pattern you want electronically, use the right decal paper (usually either a white or transparent background) and run it through your ink jet printer. I've used that for some airplane stuff and it's ok.
  7. Looks nice! Chuck has a whole ...... boatload...... of suggestions like that. You're going to enjoy Syren.
  8. I'm afraid not John. I would have said Hobby Lobby but you already covered that. Only other thought is JoAnne's if you have one nearby.
  9. You may be right Mobbsie. We caught a few but not what we usually do. Ah well, it's a long season. Today's moose was cavorting in the water, just having fun. To be honest, I was glad there were no female pheromones swirling around or it might have gotten ugly :D . They are really great to share an alpine lake with. Now for some shuteye and then back to work so you-know who gets some pictures (be a few days).
  10. I used to have one of those 6 hour lawns. No more!!!! Flowers look great. These days, if I can't eat it I don't plant it!
  11. Need a review on the movie! Can't help on dry transfers. One of our local hobby stores does carry some.....sometimes.
  12. This is a series of one day trips so home each nite. I don't have a laptop or cellphone. I talk to the moose. So far, fish are biting. Or should I say THE fish bit. Leaving now for last shot but weather is not cooperating. But I did rig main yard stays last nite Now THAT came out right!
  13. David is right on the syringes from the Pharmacy. BTW, I use white glue and a syringe for rivets on my warbirds. Works well and plenty of time to get it off if you 'miss'.
  14. Hey John------HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! I hear what Daniel is saying about the whaling thing. But this is our history --- to some their heritage. And you don't re-write that. She's not pretty????? Function dictates form. Hell, she's gorgeous for a vessel that sails around the world chasing larger than life prey. The A-10 Warthog is no beauty queen either --- until one comes over and blows up an enemy tank. Dead whales do stink though. Too bad they didn't have Fabreeze dispensers back in the 19th century.
  15. If you 'like' the idea of some weight, do it. If you've used filler blocks between the bulkheads they have already added some weight. Lead shot covered with epoxy also works well. She's your ship, mate.
  16. WOW! Really impressive Sherry. Love that outdoor pic. Let's see what a certain moderator has to say about the gunports
  17. As you can see, we've just about all had our moments of terror. A blink, cough or distraction and .......BAM! Heck, Knocked off my dolphin strikers weeks after rigging the bowsprit. What a mess. Glad the damage to your baby was repairable.
  18. Thanks Ben. No, haven't ordered yet. No rush --- that lady won't be started until late-fall. Besides, that will give them time to work out the kinks from the first run of kits
