Hi everyone. I'm back and have some catching up to do. That case above is incredible. New room ..... I'd need a new house Nothing that elaborate planned. OK time to get back to normal. My case isn't here yet so I'll just enjoy everyone else's progress. Oh, fishing stunk but we did get a few. And we always look forward to that trip. It's a riot ----- trust me

Wow----- I missed all the action! The redone ratlines look very good. Well done, Sjors.

Congratulations on a well deserved promotion. And you've been busy! Nice drill and some great looking wood you have there. I surmise this puts you just about 'over the edge'. That's ok ...... I still like you . Carry on, CAPTAIN !

AVAST ---- all ye of little faith. The tide for case building has ebbed as we prepare for the grand intermountain assault on the denizens of the deep. Following footsteps first laid by Lewis and Clark (and Ahab's charts around the Norway Maelstrom), I'll be off the grid by Monday AM (way off). No phones, no pools, no pets ---but I'll have my cigarettes. I shall return in about a week and, hopefully, my case will have come in....ready for action. Hold fast and stay the course!

Mercury by DSiemens - FINISHED - BOTTLE
augie replied to DSiemens's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1801 - 1850
The lines look good to my eye. Nice catch on the potential bottle neck problem. -
Ahhhhh! Thanks to the tenacity and diligence of the world's finest 'posting team', Floyd K's premonition of a 100 page log has been realized ---- in spite of my recent absence! I should like to thank the Academy, the Royal Family and all the ships at sea for this honor ???? But alas, all records must fall (except for DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak) and I look forward to Shaz not only exceeding, but completely shattering this mark in the very near future. We shall now return this log to normal operation and reserve a page or two for display case construction.

Ouch, Glad it was repairable. The more you get done the more careful you have to be. We all have a bump or two along the way.

Are we having fun yet? Personally, I'm goin' fishin' tomorrow as a tune up for next weeks' annual, week-long trip to the Western slope. Hope the mark is hit by the time I get home tomorrow to start packing.

Sorry Popeye ---- gotta be glass. Back at work, we had a lot of equipment with see- through enclosures and about every 2 years some guy would show up with some new wonder material guaranteed to be scratch PROOF. Usually some new polymer treated with cosmic rays or radioactive fairy dust. We'd try a sample, throw it away after 8 months and go back to glass. Hell, even my eyeglasses are glass. This allows me to wipe off the sawdust with 220 grit paper and none the worse for wear.

"The eternal struggle between man and post is vivid. His attempts to reach our inner modeler through his minimalist approach is commendable." Something oddly fascinating about this comment. Not the meaning but rather the mind that generated the thought. I'm beginning to wonder what you folks do (did) in 'real life'. Oh wait ------ MSW is our real life Sjors---- Yes, the glass will make it somewhat heavy, but not exceedingly so. It's only approx. 1/8" (3mm) thick and the oak frame is strong. Someone on here used glass twice that thickness --- now THAT would be heavy. I need to see what type of glass we have available locally out here. I've used a special non-reflective glass on some large photos I have hanging but that may not be available. At any rate, no glass cutting until we have the case ---- and the wait continues.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
