  1. You think a little humidity might help? Never thought of that. Takes a good while for wood to re-equilibrate at a higher moisture content....and it won't stay there very long.
  2. Welcome home, mate. Filler? What filler. Hey, it's the first layer. Will be really interested in your use of the alternate woods......I'm tired of basswood.
  3. Thank you, Aldo. If it hadn't been for the guidance here on MSW, I never would have tried it.
  4. She's looking really fine. Lots of fun handling these tiny bitts. Get used to it!
  5. Congrats on the wedding of your son....... and your resolution of working on the chain gang!
  6. Where is the old 'pounding your head against a brick wall' emoticon when you need it? I'm going to go smoke a fag.
  7. On behalf of the USA, we shall sanction your usage of 'colour' and even 'centre' (in the interest of detente). However, under no circumstances shall the pronunciation 'alu-MIN-ium' be tolerated. I don't care if Hillary did use alu-MIN-ium ladders to climb Everest. The ALU-min-um Company of America carries considerable weight.
  8. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Who knew the Japanese had the A6M way back in the 1800's !!!!!! Hey Sjors, is that Cutty Sark?
  9. I agree with Randy. I used 28 gauge wire rather then nails ---- same effect. Adds a LOT of strength.
  10. Most impressive. The last photo gives us a real 'feel' for what she was like. Nice guns!
  11. Patrick- head must already be too big. My hair used to cover the entire thing Grant - yes, these are also friends. Wouldn't let 'em in if they weren't (me being such a sweet guy) !
  12. John - too kind, as always. And I'm looking forward to Stag getting some lines. Mark - Thanks! But 'everyone-on-earth knows who' is heading home as we speak. Truth is, I almost miss him (shakes head over moment of weakness). Keith - Spring is finally here.
  13. Thanks guys. Missing the shop already. May just be time to get the buntlines stretched and dressed.......
  14. Just a minor update, barely worth a photo. The lifts and leech lines for the lower yards have been completed on both masts : As busy as it has been, it's about to get worse! Picking up some family from the East Coast at the airport today and we'll be spending about 10 days out and about in the Colorado high country. So no updates for a while. I will be checking in to keep an eye on everyone so STEADY THE COURSE. Everyone stay well and, where appropriate ----- Happy Mother's Day!!!
  15. If you decide you have a real problem, you can dust the oiled wood with talcum powder, let it sit overnight and then wipe it off with a cloth lightly dampened with 95+% alcohol (IPA or ethyl) and perhaps some light sanding with 400 or 600 grit sandpaper.
