Andy- that Vickers thing may be true. But 9 yards is also (supposedly) the length of the ammo belt for wing-mounted guns in WW II- not a lot of space in there. It's controversial but does appear to come out of WWII.

Welcome aboard mate. Hope you choose to share some of your builds with us here on MSW. Here's one source of ship's boats http://www.modelexpo-online.com/search.asp?SKW=cat1_MF cat2_D@ Page through it....there are several sizes and types available.

Sirene by Cloudy - Corel - 1:75

That will do it. On the final one, the poly, there are a few. Most use a 'wipe on' poly. So check them out.....just look for low or no gloss. Depends on what you like. -

That sequence should work fine. Don't forget the Pre-stain, especially for the basswood. -
There were some notes a while back on the carronades. It seems those supplied with the early kits (like mine) were too narrow. Chuck put together a new master and Model Expo supposedly has recast the carronades and will update yours if you have the old ones. I'm not sure the new ones are much better as I have never seen them. The 12lb. cannon at the stern are fine.

Welcome back Meridith. You are off to a fine start! That planking is basswood. It is a bit soft and tends to take stain unevenly. As Yves indicated, if you can get Minwax products also check for their Pre-Stain. Very easy to apply and worked wonders for me on the basswood when I used diluted Golden Oak stain.

Just a little sanding and you're done. Mark can give you tips on using his Dremel rotary tool.

Dear Sir, Your efforts look exemplary. However, I must take exception to your use of the word 'slathering' and would suggest you edit your post to replace it with 'judicious application of a minimal quantity of filler'. I dunno ---- just sounds better :D

Getting there my friend. Take a break, take your time. When you're happy......it's done!

I just helped one of the guys cover a black widow. Not a big one (50") and it's electric. At least he built it......rare these days.

Love your attitude. Did I ever tell you about the time I built 2 left wings for a P-51? I know you can relate to that! I'll tell you, you can do magic with a kit

Glad to see you getting her started.....the Morgan that is! Tough break there only being with your Admiral for 5 months. Mine's been around her for 40 odd years so all I ever need do is give her 100% of my attention for more than 1 day and she begins to ask 'aren't you going out or have a new project to start'

I cannot express the pleasure viewing your work brings to me. Without slighting anyone at all, your Syren is, for me, the benchmark. Hope all is well my friend.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
