I wonder how many people don't request replacement parts.  It seems to me that they might have a serious quality control issue.

So I am not an old man who can't find things on the internet.  I am just an old man who creates his own reality.  I could have sworn there had been one.

My experience is from 15-20 years ago.  At that time, I was able to ship Priority Mail and charged the actual cost.  At the same time, I would be receiving items that were definitely shipped "cost plus".  Even allowing for handling, many times it seemed excessive.   I haven't shipped retail since 2009 and if I remember, the PO was in the process of changing things up around then.  At that time, I was pondering adding a charge for having to stand in long lines at the PO.

Shipping is a profit center for many retailers.

Is there a definitive way to check a ruler.  What if your favourite is correct and the others off?

I ordered a Kell jig on November 10.  It shipped next day and arrived on November 22.  England to Georgia USA.  He had to walk me through the paypal thing but it was pretty straight forward.

BTW, the thing is a jewel.

If you don't want to use plaster, consider using plywood backing before clamping to even the pressure or maybe ply backing and tape to close the mould.  I have never cast metal but know bad things can happen.  Resin might be easier to use and capture better detail at the beginning of the learning curve.

I just noticed the miniature bench vise which might explain why the workbench was in the photo.  I guess I can cobble my own.

I tried an order and was told they were out of stock.  Expected back in by Nov 1.  I am a little red faced in that I am not sure what I was going to order that prompted that.  I planned on multiple items and quit on the first rejection.

By the way, that workbench is appealing.  Did you notice if it was for sale or is it just a prop for the photo?

In Toronto, where I grew up we also called them clothes pins and the ones without the spring, clothes pegs.

I recently read where some carvers are now using thin cardboard (cereal Box) charged with compound and backed by a hard surface as a strop.

Bill Ottinger has a very informative book on this ~ "Napoleonic Plastic Figure Modelling".

My father lived in northern Ontario and had his canoes re-canvased by local Indians (Cree?).  I believe that they used the right side up approach while wetting the canvas and putting quite a weight of rocks in the canoe.  And maybe re wetting.
