  1. I don't take for geanted the availability of paints here in the states......craft stores are quite plentiful......hobby stores are a second....not so many today, at there were when I was younger. I got spoiled with an airbrush...paint stroke say a lot about technique. I'll look forward in seeing your progress. one of these days, I can get on with the United States. nice to know that there are a few builds here that I can cop an idea on........I have on yours already!
  2. thank you very much Mobbsie.......I can't think of any place I'd rather be. your all such wonderful folk! if more people, instead of saying "I would never have the paitence".......would just sit down and apply themselves........they would see how creative thay are! it's hard, and sometimes frustrating, but when it's all said and done.....all that effort paid off. the admiral won't let me play with plastic......I'm good with that.......I've found more challenge, and creativity working with wood. being a member of this site and chatting with you fine folks, has bolstered me even more......and I thank you all for that. thanks for your suggestions and for your interest
  3. thanks Shaz and Bob. I keep repeating to myself bashing is fun..........bashing is fun.........but a scratch'n bash....now that's a hoot! now that's what I talking about Alex.........come on over! I got that much done John.........I was also thinking surf board.....those are easy to do. but in the interest of time, I just stuck with the skis. I gotta get normal again
  4. that's some good thinking! awwww.....you got plenty of time, I still need to finish the AmericA. but, when that's done...that will be four builds off my table! then I'll only have the Goth, the trawler, and the United States. I can breathe again! you rest up and take care or yourself...........think about your next conquest!
  5. I posted pictures of the skis a while ago........yea.....it's been that long John I found them on page 11. the Denny-Zen is finished.........the skis are all thats left to the Phylly C. I thank you for the good word.
  6. I just got a chance towards getting back more of the build I used to follow........I saw yours. haven't seen where your at with it yet, but I've read about your job problems..........I see it's just as hard over thereas it is here. sounds like you were working 'under contract'....glad to hear you were able to negotiate a new one.......more pay? you and Sjors are such good folk......Phyl and I wish nothing but the best for you two. I so happy to have gotten your build back on my list......now I can keep up with it......I'll look forward to your continuance
  7. are you almost ready to continue on your build? I hope your doing better........I still waiting on you
  8. yepper! your not wasting any time! fantastic progress and I really like the looks of your cannons. you'll get that facia on there....I've no doubts about that! superb stuff, my friend.......keep on chugg'in!
  9. thanks Daniel........Andy started me doing that....his idea some model cars have them........these are much larger, so why not. thanks for the good word........the shoe ides is looking better......the more I think about it
  10. thanks Frank.......got one toe over the finish line a we speak! thanks for the good word yea.......Andy reminded me of how the dome should look........they look the same on our tractors {truck}. they look good enough for me.....I'm just going to leave them as they are. they won't look like that in the future, I assure you the skis are a tough nut to crack......I thought of going out....buying some "barbie shoes".....and cut them up to make the bindings. I have been looking at images of skis, so I have a good idea of what I have to do. I was going to make them out of brass {sheet} and paint them, but it sounds like a pain, so I'm creating some material. this is sail cloth soaked in diluted white glue. when it is dry, I'll make a jig so I can fit the material into what I need. perhaps Froyd wouldn't mind coming over so I can check for fit.......hee.....hee. I made up the wipers for the both of them. the way I did it was pretty neat......I was going to cement a thin strip of brass on the arm and paint it flat black....but in seeing how they looked, I didn't bother. the blade is soddered on the end of the arm at an angle the dry fit showed that I needed to alter the angle a bit. but once they were adjusted, the blade was painted flat black.
  11. now THAT is awesome! I like it!!! could have hit the like button........but this is beauty overload! I was looking in my decal folder, and I have a couple of flags that I made for the Susan A. that crest you showed would look nice on a sail
  12. thanks Augie.......they work only in my mind....... yea......they are a bit off.......I'll do better next time..I suppose I could have gone completely off the wall, and done some thing like Paul did....but then I figures that the FCC would get involved.......rather stay under the radar....so to speak.....LOL! thanks John........I am too {got to go check on the Gnomes......they work cheap.....don'tcha know.......all they wanted was my lawn!} "hey......careful with that hammer ......half-pint! ohhhhh.....now how ya gonna pay for that?"
  13. the Denny-Zen got it's upgrades as well. the antennas... the nav lights a couple more shots of the anchor rope ....and then, the dome the hardest thing I'm having to work on are the bindings for the skis. I have an idea I'm working on....I hope it works. this and the wipers are all that's left. I hope to have this done today
  14. when the sub assemblies were complete......well, as complete as they're gonna be, they were fitted on the boats........it starts with the Phylly C. kinda blurry..........I'll have better ones later. here are the nav lights here are a couple more of the anchor rope the roof parts are all there now........the dome is cemented in place
  15. OK........are you ready for this?........I hope so. this update really narrowed down the amount of work I have left to do. in the beginning......sub assemblies are being put together......antennas, nav lights, just to name a few of the parts. the antennas are simply two rung stanchions with wire and brass rod run through them in the picture, are also the nav light boxes.....two of them are plastic, from the regina build, and the other two are scratch made......from my oops bin {they need to be sized down to match the plastic ones}. I grabbed the lights I got for the trawler Syborn build, and filled in the lense with window maker. the boxes were made ready. then the radios were assembled I was thinking how I was going to assemble the wipers. this begins the same way as I made the ones for the M&M build. the second radio was assembled.......the Denny-Zen is getting the delux model.....hee..hee paint work was done to the nav lights and boxes I have seen GPS / radar domes on the roofs of some of these crafts......I'll go with it........huh....they look like mushrooms.........GNOMES!!!!!! ya hate'em right?????? we had a guy at work, who had a phobia about them. we brought one in and put it on the tail end of a trailer and closed the door.....we knew he had to go in there...............what a scare he got............hee.....hee.....heee! here is a bit of a teaser...I think. I don't have anchors for these two. most lobster boats don't need them anyway, but I have seen pictures with them. in the interest of time, I decided to simply give them a coil of rope with a loop on the end. I can always change this down the road, should I come across a pair of anchors.
  16. I experimented a while ago using polished hemp.....the real stuff. it looks great........like real rope. I did the Nordkap and the Cux with it. it looks good.......but very hard to manipulate. it can be pressed to shape with the fingers though, so it was OK for those builds. the big problem with it though, was seizing.......looks too thick. I also tried to stain / dye the thread with the filler of a marker pen...damn messy and came out blotchy. really don't know how manufacturers think that a modeler is going to fully rig their builds with white thread.
  17. I did the flag for the Susan A in this method............tried diluted white glue, but the image on the flag didn't like that LOL! light coat, let it dry a bit, then do another.........if you want a third coat......do the same as the first. it might even be a good idea to let the sail set for a short time as well, to give the ink a chance to dry before you do it. I hope it goes well for you..........love to see it!
  18. is that what your using.........I got spools of the Billing's thread. the only bad thing is that I have to dye some of it black for the standing rigging. it only comes in white and a light tan.....and I do mean light tan! I tried to get some of the thread that Revell packs in their ship kits, but they don't sell it. to bad.......I like it.
  19. sorry there Sjors...good buddy.......I spells 'em like I sees them thanks Bob.......only a couple more parts left........update fourth coming com'on Sjors........let's go down to da sal-loon....git lickered up.....an' go find that guy! I ain't had a good brawl, since I could crawl!
  20. Patrick was having a problem getting his lines to sag......I gave him this suggestion: believe me....I'm all for sharing ideas...I just get the impression that you might have missed the conversation we had in his Niagra build. I'm not a big user of bees wax.....I have my doubts that glues will hold properly with threads treated this way. I do this with the cotton thread....works pretty well in getting those hairs to lay down, provided the thread isn't restrung too many times your yards look good there, Augie.......look forward in seeing the complete masting
  21. you could try....... if you have a photo shop in your computer.......create the image or import it.......sail cloth will go through the printer with no problem, just be ready to guide it. I use decal bonder to seal the cloth, so the color doesn't run.......do light coats......two or three should do the trick. superb job on the ship Alex.........that crest would look great on a sail. you can even do flags in the same manner. it can even be wrinkled nicely when dry.
