Fortunately we have not lost power even though a lot of people around me have. Good time to work in the shipyard. Hearing the driving rain and howling winds makes me imagine what it was like to be at sea on way back then in such a violent storm.

Anyway, made the Gaff and the Boom. I have done as much pre-rigging as I can before they are attached. The instructions said you can paint them or not- your choice. I was going to leave them with a light golden oak stain but had to do some patch-up work on the Gaff where it got some wood marred and gouged from an accidental drop on the floor and got stepped on. At this point I saw that the paint would completely hide this so black they now are. This also hid where I had to re-glue both jaws because of the very poor wood supplied in the kit. I wish I had made them from better wood to start with.

Completed all the rigging for these two. Found it much more difficult to get into the tight places to tie off to the belaying pins than it used to be for me. My kit was missing the beads for the parrels but I had plenty from earlier builds.

Still sanding the longboat. Hull is getting very thin. I have to be careful.

I usually seize the .008 to the top heart then run it through the bottom heart at least 4 times. I then take a toothpick and a small dab of CA to hold in place. Once it is set I seize the bitter end to the line running between the hearts.

Thanks for the patience on this build, the advice, and the likes.

It's been slow going what with personal issues, re-cutting some pieces, etc.   Here's where I am on the this first ship's boat.  The build jig has been built and the keel and the two risers on each side are installed.  The risers still need a bit of tweaking as to some bits and pieces where the planking will run and then glue them into position.  I'm pretty pleased with how it's going just need more time and focus.   After the tweaks, the next step is to cut out the ribs and install them.  I see from the photos, I need to do some more clean up of the char on the keel and the risers.

Well, its been a while so I better post another update on the build. I finished the Bowsprit assembly up until the rigging.
It hasn't been without its challenges. I made the bowsprit twice because I wasn't happy with the 1/4" dowel size, I thought it a bit too small compared to the size on the plan. The saddle looked to be the simplest part (and probably is ) but took me 4 attempts. And the Dolphin Striker broke off as I was working on the Gammoning. Luckily it broke on a glued connection so after cleaning I could glue it straight back on and didn't have to re-do it.
The bowsprit collars were seriously fiddly and I am starting to struggle to understand how and/or where some of the rigging lines start and end, resulting in some results that don't match the instructions. So far I have managed to hide them but I need to do some research in this area.
Anyway, enough dribble, here are some photo's.

    Evening,
There's a nip in the air, the trees are changing color.
There's a boiled dinner in the slow cooker.

It must be Fall!!!!!!       My favorite time of year.

In my humble opinion, probably the best time of year to build.

    Any who.....

    I stained my deck!!!!!
This is a milestone for me on Niagara.
Never did I ever think I would get this far on this build.

Started with a pre-stain wood conditioner and a sanding.

    Below is Golden Oak.
It looks better in person. Pics do it no justice.

There's some splash over of stain onto the paint.
I can easily clean that up.

There's no dip in my deck on the Port side. That's my shop lighting.
    Pics do it no justice.

    I'm reluctant to stain again.
I don't think I want it any darker.

Just realized that I started this build a year ago, September 2017.
    I cant believe It's been a year!

I wont say I can see the end in sight, that would be simply foolish!

    Thanks for watching!

Shaping the longboat is a slow, careful project. The walls get thinner and thinner and I still don't have the boat completely smooth. I'll just keep on sanding

Did something a little different for the cleats. I have had glued on cleats come off in the past so I wanted them more secure. I measured and marked where they are and drilled small starter holes for them with a small twist drill. I then used these small drill/reamer tools I got many years ago. They twist i and open the hole. Then you can use them like a mini file or rasp to remove wood. I slowly did this form one hole to another to open up a slot through the boom and gaff. I pre-shaped the cleats out of scrap I have.  When all is shaped and ready I put glue in the open slot and push the cleat all the way through so it is sticking out of both sides then shape them up down to proper size.

Don't know when I will get back to the shipyard. One of my Aunts died and I will be going out of town for a few days, leaving there and going straight to a Dr. appointment.  I will most likely be very sick from the travelling and my body will crash on me for a few days when I get back.

Been wondering when someone would inquire regarding the beautiful black line I have been using for years.
Jon.... I have three different gages of braided nylon casting line manufactured by Woodstock.
The heavy line used for shrouds and mast preventor stays is 50 lb test.
The line used for ratlines is 2 lb test made by Hercules..... label says it is 0.2mm
Then I have a number of different sizes of Chuck’s rope that will be used as I move into spar rigging on the three masts.

    Cheers all

PS.... Just heard POTUS may be visiting my flooded town today.  I can hear numerous large choppers flying around the area right now.

I used to be a bench jeweler when I could work. I used to use the stuff at work but realized how well it would work on tiny rigging knots.

I have tapered shaped the boom and gaff. The laser cut jaws supplied have split several times in the process of gluing them. I'm going to try to see if CA glue will soak into them and strengthen them after they are lightly stained. Will probably have to tear them off and re-make them with better wood.

    BOWSPRIT RIGGING....
Just a few shots of the rigged bowsprit.
All of the fellow Connie builders know, without my word, the difficulty of this area.  Happy to have the first spar now hanging securely beneath her bowsprit.
    OOPS!
Just noticed I have not added the foot ropes beneath the flying jibboom.  Easy enough to take care of at this point.

Thanks guys.  Very fortunate for sure.
As for bowsprit rigging, let me say, hats off to any of you Connie builders who managed to fight through the directions and drawings I’ve seen.
This is, by far, the most complex bowsprit rigging I have ever tackled.
I do miss working from Chuck’s instructions and graphics.
My suggestion to any modeler looking for a great kit to build.... don’t even think about anything not designed by Master Passaro.... Confederacy, Syren, Mayflower, Longboat, and eventually his Winney.
