More hullplanks, porthole templates, 2 decorations, the keel, deckplanks and planks with the meaurements 0,5X5mm

Planking is now on par with instructions.

A lot of cutting must be done to fit the keel and bowsprit:

Instructions wants you to start planking the deck now but I'll wait a little longer before I do that.

I got some new brushes and stuff so I'll do the rest of the decorations soon.

It took about a half hour to assemble this months parts

Somehow the deck was 3-4 mm too low so I had to lift it up and hang it on the door frames:

Later the planking will help keep it in place...

The metal pieces that came are the roofs of the doors at the bottom of the photograph.

I have also more or less finished the Battlestation now. Only have to mount the netting on top and do a couple of ropecoils for the left cannon.

When this is done and out of the house a tram and Lisboa diorama is up for building in the background of Vasa.

but I think they are the roofs of some of the doors on one of the stern decks...

Some damn good painting there Jörgen. I had the same problem with the frames, thought it was me doing everything wrong...

Jörgen: I'm not sure I follow you. I don't see all that much of a difference on the cannons. maybe ours are a little longer? There should be gratings on the batterydeck alright. Don't know what DeAgostini is up to there but... One could always make some and put there. And you wrote, not too much will be visible down there...

I have now caught up with the instructions regarding the planking.

This is how she looks after 184 planks:

I gave up early trying to sand the planks so the thickness would be equal.

She's one big fat mama...

Issue 43 will have the first planks for the second layer. And rumor has it that the instructions for this start in issue 48.... But I think that it's the same sort of wood

I would recommend you go ahead with your plan on using longer planks on the hull. its a pain with 30cm bits. Although the bamboo is very easy to bend, it's hard getting 3 planks to lay in a straight line.

Looking at the price on Amazon I think the customs fee isn't that bad. They add 25% VAT in Sweden. No customs as kits are classed as toys...

Anyone know if there is anywhere in europe one can get these kits?

Yes, not the best of material. (And not the best planking skill) But then again it's very easy to bend, and nice to sand.... tested a little sanding on the hull and it was very easy, much easier than walnut or the stuff that came with the Bohuslän. That took forever to sand down. So the finishing job won't take long... I hope. 

At last the new shipment arrived. Issues 33 to 36.

And this is what I got:

False deck parts, another 51 planks (239 so far) and some deck planks. no decorations this time.

This is how far I've come with the first planking:

Planks differ some in both width and thickness, but I will have to do some heavy filling and sanding anyway so...

Three of the deck parts in place.

 No matter how I measured and checked, the slots on the decks did not align with the frames. There are reinforcements from earlier that line up correctly but the frames are still off. I knocked them loose but hit a little too hard on one and it broke.

The right frame was pulled forward a little and glued in place later

If you can wait I would recommend to start building after issue 19 or 20.... A lot of trouble with aligning etc can be avoided.

You can always paint decorations until then.... 

I keep all the painted figures in the plastic bags they came in... Until I find some kind of box with lots of compartments (80 would do).

Thanks for the replies. The ****** planking is not all my fault. Lot of the strips are a little wavy and that results in the gaps. I will have to do a lot of sanding and filling anyway so I thought this could just go along.

The plus side of bamboo is that it's very easy to bend.... So I'll use them. Just hope the final layer is better quality.

I've done worse planking than this, (and better) and got quite a good result in the end so I'll let these strips stay on. I don't want to risk the frames breaking as they are quite thin. 

Hopefully the planking will get better....

This is a mini-update. I have finally got some time over to start the planking.

Off to a humble start:

As you see I really suck at planking. But there will be a second layer so...

The planking goes towards the bottom of the hull. I have to turn her upside down and therefore broken some of the tops of the frames. It'll be fun gluing them back on....

Hopefully I'll have something more exciting next time...

Hello folks...

Due to a lot of things happening at home I have not been able to do any building...

I have to do a lot of sanding and fairing on the frames and can not do this in the kitchen. 

My work has also moved to a larger building and we have a lot to do there putting everything in place so I just can't sit down there and sand my ship as the others run around doing all the work...

But a new shipment has arrived. Issues 29-32.

This was in the bag:

Mostly hull planks (81 of them. Good quality), one section of the deck and 3 decorations.

There are now 188 hull planks at 300mm each. Thats 56,4 meters...

(Around issue 48 the second planking will start so the poor quality planks will be covered)

And the decorations:

I will start painting the decorations again as soon as things quiet down here. Have patience...

The flu has left the house here as well. if only the teenagers could do the same!!!

Quality was MUCH better now. Maybe they just sent me some leftovers last time...

Not much have been done due to two teenage nervous breakdowns and Der Frau having a dito, the two younger kids having christmas celebrations at school and me in the middle of it all looking stupid... But I'll try to do a little painting of the decorations now and then... and fair the frames... and plank the hull...
