  1. This is how I made the rudder. I guess the original is more elaborate, but it's better than what DeAgostini wants you to do.

The deck. On the original almost no planks have the same width due to different nationalities working with different measurements. I did four butt shift

No where near the original but better than DeAgostini...

And here is the big problem. Theres almost no space to work on trying to do a good keel planking. This is my third attempt under way before she went in the closet waiting until all shipments have arrived.

I found the thin strips easy to peel off and easy to sand off, so when  you have taken the pictures for your blog you could always replank the keel and rudder... ;)

You are doing a great job, and I wish I could do the painting you do.. I am way behind on that. Being colorblind takes away the fun in painting hundreds of figures... :D

  2. Did you not have 5x5 left over when you did the deck beams early in the build?

Someone was drunk at Occre at the time they made this kit, even the pictures from the instructions show the 5x5mm pinrails with extra long belaying pins :D

Those brass discs are the gun carriage wheels I think...

    Again, a great build!

  3. I was thinking (I know I'm bragging...) that maybe a bunch of us here in Europe should compose a e-mail to CMB about the benefits of them becoming supplier of Master Korabel. Maybe a British member could compose this (as english is my second language) and everyone here who is interested could sign this e-mail?

  4. Yeah, I might have gone a little over the top with the bricks. I'll have a look around for something more like your sheet... Your stove is great!

To me it looks as the columns in the pictures are completely different from those in the kit. The wider square will look better at the base anyway I think... One could maybe remove two sides of the square but I don't believe one would get the same look as in the pictures anyway...

  5. I hope I don't hijack this thread now...

Chuck: One problem with living in Europe is the shipping, vexrobotics has a shipping fee of €92.90 (!!!) for 12 plastic gears. Add to that 25% salestax...

The Swedish government believes that they loose millions of tax money on us who order stuff on Ebay and such so there is extra fees on cheap stuff ordered outside EU now...

wefalck: Ok, two sets of same gear for a serving machine. Got it. Serving machine is the one I need first of all. Still have some model rope...

Graham: No metal lathe... I'll be on the lookout for some drawings for a ropewalk, found a couple of sources on Amazon for the gears, but postage is double of what the gears cost so I'll wait until I find more stuff to order... Only need some drawings to follow as I'm not technical enough to do them myself...

I'll be back in the end of this month with more stupid questions when I get some gears.

    Thanks all of you

  6. I'm quite satisfied with the kit. I bought some lighter colored strips for the deck, but the rest of my kit has ok quality wood. All the plywood straight.

My first model was from Caldercraft and the wood was so bad it almost ended the hobby for me... And the kits I built from Turkmodel/NCB are far worse. My DeAgostini Vasa is from Artesania Latina and is maybe equal of Nuestra. I'm also building "Terror", Occres latest kit and the that wood is better but the instructions are worse...

But we'll se how I feel when I get to the galleries.... :)

  7. Hi Mark, a great build!!!

I'm also building this one, doing the first steps of the gunports atm.

Have you had any thoughts about what to do about the stove? Instructions say to paint the bricks?

I bought some ceramic bricks that should be in scale and build up the stove with them. Stiff tissue paper as mortar. At least the side that will be visible...
