  1. Jay I have heard of modelers using a fan blowing to help set the sails to the bellow they wanted. Just a thought.
  2. Steve Looks like you are having fun with boats. Don't worry about the progress, its not a race. Some parts do take longer than others. I am still playing around with yards and will be for some time to come.
  3. Jay Sails are looking outstanding as usual. You better put the Conny in a case before she sails away .
  4. Your craftsmanship is outstanding, thanks for the post.
  5. Thanks for taking the time to post your method. Next time I make some rings I will give it a try.
  6. You know, just because your a moderator now it does not exempt you from modeling So....Make some sawdust and post some progress on your Conny and Kingfiaher
  7. Again everything is looking great and thanks for working through all those little forgotten parts of build
  8. Julie is really helpful and easy to deal with. Sure am glad NRG has her
  9. Wow You are making great progress on the bowsprit. I am really worriedonce I get that far I will surely break something off It sure is fun watching your build knowing what I have to Look forward to. I am experimenting with bending some eyebolts and rod for the jackstays
  10. I am in the process of making the eyebolts and getting the right rod figured out. Your bullseyes turned out great.
  11. Jay I have a question for you. On the plans for the yards they show the jackstays, Eyebolts with a rod thru them spaceds about 3/16" apart. In the practicum it is stated that they did not supply the eye bolts so he decided to leave them off. On the main yard looks like you could put quite few on each side of the yard. While looking ahead I think it shows some of the foot ropes lashed to the jackstays and I think they were also used to stow the sails. Any Ideas from you or the other Conny buiders would be helpful. Thanks
  12. Chuck Simply outstand work and craftsmanship on the blocks. I will be waiting for them to become available.
  13. What great details! The only thing you need is some bacon for those eggs. Simply outstanding. With a scale of 1/48 you can really add details.
  14. Everything is looking great. Nice progress. Without a lathe or shopsmith here is all I need to make my yards And yes maybe someday a lathe.
  15. Nice progress Harvey. Losts of little details on the deck, but everything sure looks good.
  16. I also have the kit, it will be awhile before i get to it though. It will be great to follow yours and Jeffs progress. So make some sawdust guys so it will be easier for me.
  17. I am aware of that spar. Thanks for the update though. I am actually getting pretty good shaping these things by hand. The first ones are the hardest, then the second seems easier and so on. Right now I am spending more time planning than building.
  18. Jay The boats are a fun build. You can put as much or little details that you want into them. I have even seen som covered with tarps. Each on is a model in itself.I am still futzing with yards. Almost have one done.
  19. Great tip Jay. All the way from kids toys (ropewalk) to old photo paper (metal bands). Modeling is always making us think and plan ahead
  20. Bowsprit and martingale are looking good. Nice dervision from the rigging.
  21. Harvey I know just how you feel. Sometimes the old proven ways seem the best. Right now I am working on the yards. I have no lathe so...... All the shaping is done by hand. I used all kinds of sanding stick, files, my dial caliper, etc. Nice slow pace and a few hours later I have my yard. All I had to do is remove everything from the dowl that didn't look like a yard I think some day I might get a lathe, but I will have to win the lottery first.
