I did buy the wood box set a long time ago. I'm thinking they changed suppliers to lowest bidder and quality went out the window. Looking at the price today... $25.... really? I think I paid a lot more when I bought my set.

Hull Planking Question

I don't think it was "plain" water. Most likely a mixture of glycol and fresh water. The glycol displaces the water and helps to preserve the wood. The same thing was done with the Vasa amongst others. -

I'm a tad late but I brought my egg nog. I think I'll sit down below instead of in the rafters. I don't want to fall out of them as the nog is tad strong this year.

Been doing that and mentally trying to sort things out. I finally picked up a strip of wood and some glue and started laying planks again.

Let's not forget that often the boats were towed to keep the deck clear and also keep the boat's hull wet so the wood wouldn't shrink and create more headaches.

Bluejacket does one that is very accurate. Model Shipways is also accurate. However they do represent different period in her history. -

Love the tower rework, Kevin. As for the orientation question.... do what you want unless there's some compelling reason to do otherwise.

I have both a mill and lathe. The mill gets used a lot more than the lathe. If I were starting over, the lathe probably wouldn't be on my list. As for chisels, buy what you need when you need it. I have several sets of the old Dockyard chisels.. while nice, I've not used them that much.

The simple answer is measure the boat and divide into thirds. Two lines of rope such that they are a third of the way from each end. Put 4 eyebolts into the coaming at the points mentioned and secure the lines by seizing them.
