Thanks for sharing these photos, Laura. Beautiful work and display on the both the village and the ship. Your grandfather was a true craftsman. -
Hi Martin, welcome to MSW. We're a friendly and helpful bunch so other than swallowing hard, open a log and jump in.

Beautiful work that captures the mood totally. There's an old saying about artists (and this is art for sure) " Every artist needs a canvas and a critic with a gun. When the work is done, the critic should shoot the artist so he doesn't go too far." You're there. Add your flag and put her in a case or we'll have to send the critic to your workshop.

Aluminum foil might also be an option but it is rather flimsy.

If you're interested in the 3D printing, there is this section: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/34-cad-and-3d-modellingdrafting-plans-with-software/ But it's more for doing the work yourself although there are posts dealing with commerical companies. -
Numerous ways to skin that cat, Charlie. Try using the search function (upper right side) and "deadeye" or "deadeyes" as the keywod. After the first search use the "advanced" features and set the search to this sub-forum. You'll come across methods from jigs similar to what Gregory posted to simple methods using a paper clip.

I'm here for this one though there is a small problem... I'm out of popcorn machines. I'll have to move one from someplace else. <sigh> Work is never ending. -
Welcome to MSW, Scott. Good luck on finding more about this model. I hope your search goes well.

One never wants to find out what "OR ELSE", means. You have an interesting technique on the painting. I'll be interested in seeing how this works out. I used a brush on my CH-53 but different scale and acrylic only. Back to hanging out in the rafters as we don't get popcorn or nuts falling on us there.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
