I can't add much to what's already been said, but your display really sets the mood. The shipyard worker is definitely a master stroke on an already masterful build. I too can't wait to see what you'll build next.

I give a shot at thinking outside the box.... given how long it took for drawings to be made, is it possible that Dorsetshire was originally supposed to be built at a "contractor's" yard? Or it was an experiment?

Artesania Latina Zuiderzee Botter 1912 instructions
mtaylor replied to grsjax's topic in Wood ship model kits
Have you tried contacting AL? Here's a link to their website: https://artesanialatina.net/en/104-ship-models -
I don't know of anyone who measures perfectly the first time. The usual method seems to be measure several times and then cut. Even still, mistakes happem.

I just more amazed with every post. You managed to back so much detail into this small model. Amazing.

To be honest, I doubt very seriously that any model kit by most of the older companies will be 100% accurate to plans, etc. Some reasons have to do with box size (yes, some kits were designed to fit into a box of a certain size), what plans were used, how the plans were drawn and zillion other reasons for discrepancies. Best bet would be to pick the kit you like best and seems to meet your needs and skills.

How to get build listed in index
mtaylor replied to Bill97's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
I just checked and in the title of the log it does show "FINISHED". -
I'm not sure that the intake filters were ever powered on choppers. Most of the ones I've seen take the incoming air and 'cyclone' (for lack of a better word). The realitively clean air goes into the engine and the dust and debris goes out he side/top/bottom of the filter. Many different designs depending on the engine.

Welcome to MSW, Jose. It is very much a learning process on building ship models and our members here are happy to help and share the knowledge. As for your historical discussion, you can start a conversation in this area: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/5-nauticalnaval-history/

Dust extractor - compact and quiet?
mtaylor replied to Rik Thistle's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I'll be the odd man out here.... I use a 5 gal. shop vac. and move the hose from machine to machine. Works well for me but I'm not processing logs or large blocks of wood. As for hearing protection... ear plugs or what's use to be called "Mickey Mouse" ears (a headset type of ear protection that foam lined) works for me. If I'm feeling lazy for just a few pieces, I turn off my hearing aids and leave them in my ears. -
Enzo Ferrari by CDW - FINISHED - Tamiya 1:24 Scale
mtaylor replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
It ain't just the kits that do that. I've done if myself by putting parts in not-so-obvious place for later use and then not find them. Only after being just about done re-making the parts do the old ones turn up. -
Hi Mike. Welcome to MSW. Feel free to start a build log as it's an excellent way to get help.

Welcome to MSW, Randy. I'm hoping you will do a build log as it's a great way to get help and meet other modelers. -
Well, yeah.. we didn't hang our pinky out in the breeze when sipping our beverage nor was the language suitable for the refined gentlepersons. I guess we were, at times, shall we say "total jackasses", but it was fun and good way to blow off steam. And then there was "beer night at home" sitting on the hootch roof with cold ones and watching the flares, etc. from various things going on in the bush. We'd end up rolling the empty ones down the roof and when done, we'd roll ourselves down the roof and land on the bunker.

Well have to start a game of sorts on this build... "Find the crew members". They do add a lot of character to your ship.

Looking good, Claire. I"m glad you had a safe trip in both directions. Between the weather being iffy of late that virus, travel has become more than a pain.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
