  1. Very true, OC. My parents, aunts, and uncles have all died including my sister and ,many of the cousins. Those left have scattered to the far corners of the country. Enjoy things while we can and smile at the good memories as they are also fleeting.
  2. Your work on this is marvelous, OC. I hope the mojo comes back and you keep going. As for mojo, I find it tends to wander off on it's own like it needs a vacation or just a rest.
  3. Proof of life and work post. Still re-working the hull planking but not ready to show anything. However, I did take the last week or two to build the ship's boat. I re-used the plans and laser cutting drawings from Licorne as they're the same. So here's photos of the boat. This little beasty is only abot 6" (15 cm) long. At some point I'll decide if I want more boats or just let it go at the one. Back to working on making myself happy with the hull planking.
  4. Welcome to MSW, Nate. Do a search search of the build logs for the Swift and also, do give some serious consideration to the Shipwright series from Model Shipways. Most importantly, open a build log on any and all projects as they are a great way to get help and make friends.
  5. I'll hold if for you... even stash it in the cooler. Glen's post does sound like a challenge.
  6. Weathering of the type we seldom see on models. Very well done. So well done, it makes me want to shiver.
  7. Way back in boot camp, I remember mention of being guards on board for captain's/admiral's cabins and on board messengers as needed. But there was a lot of uniform and gun cleaning/repairs, not to mention target practice and "repel boarders" drills. How much of that applies to the Brits, I have no idea but I suspect it was similar.
  8. Have a great and well-deserved vacation, Chris. It's good to get away from "work" no matter how much you enjoy it.
  9. Just one amazing model. Breathtaking work.
  10. They used to make an office/desktop printer that did 11 X 17 but I've not found any lately after mine died. So yes, use the standard office type printer (some take 8.5 X 14) and then an office supply or print shop for the larger ones. I've used those services and now use architectural copy shops for the large prints and find them very reasonable in price.
  11. Sorry I'm late to the finish.... but just long low WOW from me. This is incredible and been a wonderful journey following along.
  12. The shipwright should be pleased as the carpenters are doing excellent work.
  13. Regarding your first part... Budriot was a good researcher as I understand. The problem is that his monographs have never been updated so if there's new information, it's not in them. The real problem is then learning what is correct. I do have a question... what is in the space behind the fake windows? I believe windows were reserved for senior officer spaces due to cost. So, is that junior officers cabin since it doesn't have a balcony?
  14. True on that. What parts are chromed? This got my curiosity up.
  15. With 4 crewman in there plus the engine right behind them, I d think it was plenty warm.. Now summer would be another issue.
  16. Welcome to MSW from a former Tech Writer. Good looking Albatros. Do feel free to open build logs as not only is a good way to meet others, but also to get help.
  17. We have our own place for that.....
  18. Disease probably such as dysentery. It's still a problem. Maybe not so much on ships but ground troops have had issues with various feces born diseases for centuries. When I was in Nam, we had assorted health problems related to such matters.
  19. Well, I think most if not all of us have been there with you. Just takes some time and practice.
