Hi folks Thanks heaps for all of your comments and Likes. Much appreciated! Well, Shadow's journey continues. Before I can start on any of her internal details, I've decided that it is essential to build the superstructure and it's supporting decks, namely the Main, Upper and Sun Decks. Once they're done, then I can safely start on the internal accommodation. As you can see from the photos, the decks are really at a very rough and early stage, so they don't look terribly spectacular Here's hoping that with a healthy dose of magic by Nenad's worker ants , the 'diamond in the rough' will be transformed into a little jewel (well....let's hope so). Cheers and all the best! Patrick

Hi Bob An edwardian Steam Launch? Would that be similar to what Michael Mott is building? If so, I can just imagine how well you're going to do all of the metal work in the steam engine and pipes. Looking forward to seeing you start. Cheers Patrick

Hi WoodButcher That's funny. It seems that you and I both have a mutual friend. His name is Putty!!! And...very useful he is, too, because I use it so much ! I really like what you've done so far. The last photo shows what looks to be a nicely faired hull, with a well defined chine and garboard plank. Nicely done! The other thing that surprised me is the length of the hull; i.e. 40cms. The reason being that my initial thought was the use of popsicle sticks meant that the hull would've been much smaller. However, it looks like you've used them really well and compensated for the bulkhead issue that you mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing your next updates! Cheers Patrick

Hi Denis Very nice work on the gallows. Like you, I'm not sure how it's all going to come together, what with the gallows, booms and lines, etc, but I'm sure looking forward to seeing how you do it. All the best for the weekend! Cheers Patrick

Hi WoodButcher It looks like you're off to a great start. I'm definitely taking a front row seat! The link to the Antares that you've provided looks like she's going to be a beauty. Can I ask what size/scale you're building at? Cheers Patrick

Hi Nenad Mmmm! Your Worker Ants were gratefully accepted and have been put to good work! However, the boss ant says that he misses your workshop and Her Majesty. I fear a mutiny is on the cards as they try to jump ship and head back your way!!!! It's so unfair.... Seriously though, you've gotta be really proud of what you've done. It's a joy to follow your journey. All the best! Cheers Patrick- 4,152 replies

Hey Mike Super work on the Keelson! With all of those joints, angles, edges, etc, it's almost as if you've created the perfect blend between craftsmanship, engineering and just sheer talent! Nicely done! Cheers Patrick

Hi Bob Wow, wow and triple wow! Love your work. It seems like you're really cracking along nicely. You must be coming to an end, soon. Any hints as to what your next ship's gonna be? All the best! Cheers Patrick

Hi Kees I'm kinda glad that you didn't dispatch your cat ! However, it doesn't matter how you got back to building again; the important thing is that you're back at it...and that's all that matters. So, in a nutshell, I'm looking forward to your regular updates. Take care and welcome back! Cheers Patrick

Hi Frank Lovely work! In fact, you've done such a good job on those topgallant stanchions, that their symmetry and uniformity (as shown in the eighth photo), kinda reminds me of a squad of soldiers marching in unity across the parade ground. You know, prim, proper, perfectly straight and in-line. I guess what I'm saying, is 'nice and precise', once again, Frank! Cheers Patrick

Cutty Sark by NenadM

Hi Nenad You know, it's often said that a model ship is built up of many tiny individual models, all of which come together to form the whole model. Your pump and WC cabinet are glorious models in their own right. Marvellous! Cheers Patrick- 4,152 replies

Thanks Nenad. I think I could definitely do with a boat-load of your worker ants! They'd be most welcomed, that's for sure. Cheers Patrick

Hi Nils - Thanks! I definitely agree with you about her shape. Sleek, yet powerful! HI Bob. Yep, each deck will lift out...well, that's the plan, anyway. Incidentally, Shadow has five decks - Bilge, Lower, Main, Upper and, lastly the Sun Deck. This is going to be a fun build! Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
