Hi everyone! Thanks for all of your comments and Likes. Greatly appreciated! This week, I've been too flat out to work on Shadow, until tonight. The first thing that I managed to do was to build the initial framework of the cabin on the Upper Deck. A lot of guess work has gone into it because the photos and plans that I'm relying upon don't show that much detail. But, nonetheless, at least I've managed to nut it out...I think! Lots of work to go, though. Anyhow, I'm just glad that she's beginning to take shape. Have a great weekend, folks! Cheers Patrick

Hi Jond Beautiful progress on a beautiful boat. I can't wait to see her under full sail on the water! Cheers Patrick

Wow, Denis. Syborn's really come a long way since your last update. I wouldn't worry too much about losing the wide open deck space. She's a working boat and a crowded deck just looks more in keeping with her intended purpose. Keep up the great work! Cheers Patrick

Thanks Denis! That's always a possibility, but so far, things are looking ok with the current materials. Fingers crossed! Cheers Patrick

Hi Lawrence Many thanks and I must admit to being just as surprised as you about how fast she's coming along! Cheers Patrick

Hi Jond Mmmm...that's one beautiful hull and also a good story about how you got to build her in between the Booth Bay and Charles Notman ships. I wonder what the 'surprise' is, though???? Cheers Patrick

Hey Vaddoc Thankfully that pesky frame has turned up! It's amazing how these things can seemingly vanish into thin air...it's a constant pain for us modellers. Having said that, that's certainly a big boy that you're building! Cheers Patrick

HI Frank Many thanks for your lovely comment. I'm not sure about the 'talented' bit, but I sure do love what I do. As I've said in previous logs, there's something mesmerising and fascinating for me about building at these scales. So much so, that I just can't help but love creating these teeny tiny boats. Thanks once again. Have a great week! Cheers Patrick

Hi Firdajan Always lovely to watch your models come together and this one's no exception! Cheers Patrick

Hi Juzek Very nice and clean work. Your method of building the hull is very interesting, as well; particularly when there are no internal hull stiffeners to maintain the hull shape. Nicely done! Cheers Patrick -
Hi Carl - good question! To be honest, I'm not really too sure, either. Maybe, it's because I had cut the template out of cardboard anyway and, before I knew it, I'd started to use it to build the actual deck. No stress, though, because once it's planked with wood and saturated in liquid super-glue, it'd be super strong! In fact, it'd be just as strong as styrene, or, wood. Hi Nenad. Thanks for your lovely comment and, also for the loan of the Ants! Greatly appreciated. Hi John - thanks for the photos of the Type 21 Destroyer. It's always nice to see how these ships are built. Kinda like watching giant lego blocks coming together, aren't they? Have a great week, everyone! Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
